PokerStars weekend review (18 March 2013)

March 18, 2013

This weekend was one of the busiest in PokerStars history with major live tournaments popping across three continents and the enormous MicroMillions 4 starting. You need have only glanced at the ‘widgets’ down the right-hand side of the PokerStars Blog to have seen that. The EPT London Main, EPT London High Roller, APPT Seoul, LAPT Chile and MicroMillions were all staking their claim on the real estate of this blog. And then, just to top it all off, Team PokerStars SportStar Rafa Nadal then went on to win at APT Indian Wells.

Let us ease you into the week with a summary of what went down…

EPT champion Ruben Visser

  • Dutch master Ruben Visser won the EPT London Main Event for £595,000 beating an impressive final table line-up which included Team PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen (who was making an incredible comeback), online tournament king Chris Moorman and back-to-back EPT London final table finisher Steve O’Dwyer.

  • You can check out all the EPT London results here, which show impressive showings from a number of players not least so Sergio Aido who won the UKIPT London Main Event, cashed in the EPT Main Event and finished runner-up in two other side events (and one of those was chopped with former EPT champ Nicolas Chouity). Check out the festival review here.

  • Hedge fund manager Talal Shakerchi yet again showed how financial acumen and the ability to deal with pressure translates well to the poker table by winning his second EPT High Roller for £436,330. Faraz Jaka managed to make it to the heads-up ahead of Fabian Quoss but couldn’t overcome Shakerchi’s large heads-up chip lead. Team PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren also made a deep run to complete a UKIPT/EPT High Roller final table double.

  • And don’t forget to drop in on The EPT Quote Board, which picked up some great needles, sly asides and general tittle-tattle of EPT London.

  • Elsewhere in the world Aaron Lim won APPT Seoul for ₩121,700,000 ($109,247) and Pablo Tavitián toppled Team PokerStars Pro Nacho Barbero’s attempt at an historic third LAPT title collecting $184,220 in doing so.

  • There was also a lot of action online with the all the usual weekend honours being handed out (click through to the Sunday Million and Sunday Warm-Up reports). You can see all the final table finishers of the weekly tournaments here. Big shout out to PokerStars Team Online’s Caio ‘pessagno’ Pessagno who won the Sunday Second Chance for $38,002.01.

  • We’re also reporting on every single MicroMillions final table of the 100 event series. Bang on this MicroMillions hyperlink to find them.
