What a summer this has been. It started whilst most of my friends were already in Vegas for the start of the WSOP. I was busy attempting to train for the 10km charity run “Race for Life” in aid for Cancer Research UK.

The race rolled around quickly – I had managed to squeeze in two 5km and one 7km run the week before, and I was quietly confident that I should be able to get around the course in around an hour and ten minutes. The race itself was a huge amount of fun – some 1,400 ladies of all ages and backgrounds, mostly wearing pink and full of exuberance.

Something about the word “race” must have appealed to my competitive nature. I didn’t just finish the course… I crushed my expected time, finishing in 52 minutes! I couldn’t believe it and it’s really inspired me to try out more runs like this in the future.

Anyway, the next day was equally exciting, but for very different reasons. I’d been invited to the London premiere of World War Z, the new Brad Pitt movie directed by Marc Forster. So I spent the day getting glammed up for arguably one of the biggest red carpet opportunities of my life… and damn it was huge!

The wall of photographers was both terrifying and exhilarating, and fortunately there were some great photos from it. It was awesome to see Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the flesh, too. They really are such a beautiful couple.

The movie was intense, to say the least. Told from the perspective of a former UN worker (Pitt), it’s a powerful blockbuster documenting the end of the spread of a terrible disease that laid waste to the majority of the human race and left behind hordes of ferocious zombies. It left me on the edge of my seat throughout, and I highly recommend you go and see it.

The night ended even more spectacularly when the band Muse, who wrote the soundtrack to the movie, played a spectacular open-air concert in central London for all the premiere guests and thousands of free ticket winners. What a weekend!
