SCOOP 2014: chosenwinner is Event #45-M champ, five-way deal yields top dollar for DontBluffMyJ ($109 NLHE Wrap-Up, Turbo, Re-Entry)

May 19, 2014

The 2014 SCOOP came to a close today after 15 days, 135 events and more than $81 million in total prize money awarded. Everyone knows PokerStars throws a good party and their rep stayed intact with the SCOOP’s fireworks finale– a $109 buy-in NLHE Turbo Re-Entry extravaganza. This event’s watch ultimately went to Germany’s chosenwinner, who dodged elimination again and again at the final table and earned nearly $74,000 following a five-way deal.

Event #45-M’s 5,390 players made 2,690 re-entries, creating an $808,000.00 prize pool. 1,080 places were paid with $121,200.00 set aside for the winner. The Red Spade army was over thirty strong in this event and nine made the money: Joe Cada (977th), George “Jorj95” Lind III (903rd), Maxim Lykov (822nd), Stavros “IDOLLS” Kalfas (688th), David Williams (636th), Andre Coimbra (547th), Victor Ramdin (355th), Matthias De Meulder (345th), and Naoya “nkeyno” Kihara (37th).

Blinds were 200,000/400,000 on the final table bubble and imjuniar was down to his last 388,663. He called all-in from the cutoff and elmerixx moved all-in for 3.37 million from the small blind. Chosenwinner called all-in as well.

elmerixx 6♣6♦
chosenwinner 8♦8♠

Elmerixx flopped a set of sixes on the J♥6♥5♣Q♥A♠ board and won the 5.97 million main pot while chosenwinner survived by winning the 1.42 million side pot. Imjuniar was out of luck, and hit the rail in tenth place, setting the final table.

Two down in eight hands

By Hand #4, Me-Hash11 was below two big blinds and when the action folded to elmerixx on the button, he moved all-in for 8.68 million. With 400,000 already committed in the big blind, Me-Hash11 called off his remaining 315,000 and turned over 3♥4♦. Elmerixx’s Q♥10♦ rivered two pair on the J♠6♥6♦7♦10♠ board and send Me-Hash11 to the rail in ninth place ($6,262.00).

Four hands later, donvito1st moved all-in for his last 1.12 million and bkmzee called from the big blind. Bkmzee’s A♣Q♠ flopped an ace and won the race against donvita1st’s 10♥10♦, ending his run in eighth place ($9,696.00).

chosenwinner KOs Peeeeetar in seventh

By the time the blinds rose to 300,000/600,000, Peeeeetar was down to 2.3 million in chips. He open-shoved from UTG with A♦4♠, but chosenwinner came in right behind him and reshoved for 4.14 million. Elmerixx called from the big blind and the cards went on their backs.

Peeeeetar A♦4♠
chosenwinner J♦J♠
elmerixx A♥K♦

Chosenwinner’s pocket jacks held up on the 8♥6♠2♦Q♦Q♥ board and he tripled to 11.4 million. Elmerixx tumbled to 1.57 million and Peeeeetar was eliminated in seventh place, collecting $17,372.00.

elmerixx double-doubles, alberto.m7’s jacks snapped off

Elmerixx hung on by doubling twice, first when his K♦10♥ held up against chhawes’s 5♣10♦, then a few hands later when his J♠9♠ counterfeited chosenwinner’s pocket sixes on a board that paired kings and eights.

Two hands later, alberto.m7 made his last stand, open-shoving for 2.47 million with J♠J♦. Chhawes called with an inferior A♠3♣, but turned trip threes and rivered a full house on the 5♣3♠9♣3♥9♣ board to eliminate alberto.m7 in sixth place ($25,048.00).

Five-way chop

With the blinds up to 400,000/800,000 and the stacks extremely shallow, the final five agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here’s how they stacked up at the time:

DontBluffMyJ – 15,632,363
chhawes – 10,064,735
chosenwinner – 6,813,042
bkmzee – 5,219,952
elmerixx – 2,669,908

Final table host George “Jorj95” Lind III provided the players with ICM numbers that awarded shares ranging from $49k to $88k. All five quickly agreed to the proposal and with $6,000 left to play for, cards went back in the air.

DontBluffMyJ delivers a one-two punch

Two hands after action resumed, elmerixx moved all-in from UTG, DontBluffMyJ reshoved on the button, and bkmzee called all-in from the big blind. DontBluffMyJ flopped top pair and hit running cards to make a flush, eliminating elmerixx in fifth place ($49,288.49) and bkmzee in fourth ($61,895.75).

DontBluffMyJ falls fast

However, DontBluffMyJ didn’t hold on to those chips for long. Two hands later, DontBluffMyJ open-shoved for 21.3 million from the small blind and chhawes called all-in for 10.8 million from the big. Chhawes’s 3♠3♣ won the race against Q♦10♠ and he doubled to 23.4 million, leaving DontBluffMyJ on 9.75 million.

Two hands later, DontBluffMyJ open-shoved on the button and chhawes reshoved from the small blind. Chhawes’s A♦Q♦ held up against A♥5♥ and DontBluffMyJ was suddenly on the rail. Although he finished third, DontBluffMyJ took home the largest share of the prize pool at $88,282.38.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 6: chosenwinner (7,813,042 in chips)
Seat 8: chhawes (32,586,958 in chips)

Chosenwinner immediately doubled to 13.8 million when his pocket fives won a flip vs Q♥10♥ and three hands later he doubled again when his Q♠2♠ flopped a deuce and turned deuces and fives vs. chhawes’s A♥K♦. Chhawes fell to 15.6 million, but evened the counts again when he fired 999,999 on a A♥8♦3♥4♣7♦ board and chosenwinner folded the river.

Chosenwinner slipped to 14.9 million but doubled to 29.8 million when his 10♥8♥ flopped a ten against chhawes’s K♠J♣. Left with only 10.5 million, chhawes open-shoved with Q♦J♠ and his dominating hand held up against chosenwinner’s Q♠9♣. Once again, the counts were nearly even, chosenwinner holding 19.3 million to chhawes’s 21.1 million.

Then, on the next hand, chosenwinner limped in from the small blind and chhawes shoved from the big. Trap perfectly executed, chosenwinner snap-called with K♦K♥. Chhawes’s K♣9♦ did not improve and chosenwinner doubled to 38.6 million, leaving chhawes on little more than one big blind.

Although chhwaes doubled on the next hand, the one following it would be his last. Chosenwinner made it 3.6 million to go on the button and chhawes called all-in with K♠7♠, only to run into pocket aces:

Congratulations to chosenwinner on his SCOOP victory! Thanks to the five-way deal, he banked $73,994.04 while runner-up chhawes earned $77,510.30.
