On the second Sunday of 2014 SCOOP, players had options in the NLHE and PLO variations. Event 24 was Pot Limit Omaha with six-max tables, rebuys allowed, and a turbo structure of five-minute levels. That’s one way to zip through the Sunday tournaments!

By the end of the registration and rebuy period, the final numbers were wild, with the prize pool soaring to nearly three times the original guarantee:

Players: 1,248
Rebuys: 2,173
Add-ons: 1,015
Guarantee: $150,000.00
Total prize pool: $443,600.00
Paid players: 156

When the money bubble burst, only one member of Team PokerStars Pro was still in action – Andre “aakkari” Akkari, who soon busted in 102nd place for $798.48.

The action was fast, said Captain Obvious. By the three-hour break, only 35 players remained on six tables. In that same hour, the tournament thinned to just two tables and quickly to the final table bubble. That burst when EDWARDHOPPER pushed all-in with Q♣ K♥ 8♣ A♣ against the K♦ K♠ A♥ J♠ of subiime. The board ran out 8♥ 10♥ Q♠ A♦ 5♣ , and subiime ended up with a straight. EDWARDHOPPER exited in seventh place with $7,763.00.

BigTurtle11 and subiime vie for top spot

The final table kicked off in Level 38, with 60K/120K blinds and these players’ chip counts:

Seat 1: FA_Morgoth (2,939,106 in chips)
Seat 2: PAWWWW (2,562,174 in chips)
Seat 3: BigTurtle11 (3,610,355 in chips)
Seat 4: subiime (3,502,182 in chips)
Seat 5: derlauf (1,904,827 in chips)
Seat 6: nilsef (819,356 in chips)

On the very first hand, derlauf raised from the small blind, and nilsef moved all-in from the big blind with 6♦ 7♦ 10♣ A♣ . Derlauf called with Q♥ Q♣ 6♠ 2♠ , and that turned into the best two pair after the reveal of the 9♥ 2♥ 5♠ 9♠ 10♦ board. Nilsef was quickly gone in sixth place for $13,308.00.

That happened so quickly that the screen shot already excludes nilsef.

Play slowed just a bit five-handed, but FA_Morgoth and derlauf were very aggressive and took big pots. But when derlauf took 2.1 million from FA_Morgoth, the former jumped into a solid lead, with PAWWW making it to second place.

BigTurtle11 then doubled through subiime as shown here:

Subiime then risked the rest of his stack with J♣ 4♦ K♥ K♠ against the J♦ K♦ 8♠ A♥ of FA_Morgoth. The board of A♠ 4♥ 5♦ 9♥ 3♦ gave FA_Morgoth top pair, and subiime exited in fifth place with $18,897.36.

BigTurtle11 doubled up again, that time through FA_Morgoth:

PAWWWW was next to move all-in and did it with J♦ Kâ™  K♦ 7♥ , but BigTurtle11 was along for the ride with Jâ™  10♦ Q♣ A♣ . And the board was incredible when it offered Aâ™  6♣ J♣ 10♣ K♣ to give BigTurtle11 the royal flush! PAWWWW couldn’t argue with that and left in fourth place with $28,834.00.

FA_Morgoth then got involved with derlauf to see a reraised flop of 6♥ 6♠ 2♣ . Derlauf moved all-in with 9♥ 9♦ 4♦ Q♥ for two pair, and FA_Morgoth called all-in with A♠ 3♣ 5♣ 7♠ for the draw. But the board finished with 8♥ and K♠ , leaving FA_Morgoth out in third place with $42,142.00.

Deal for heads-up

The two finalists stopped play on the second hand of heads-up play to discuss a potential deal. They quickly agreed to the chop numbers provided, and with $3,000.00 still in play, the payouts were settled as follows:

Seat 3: BigTurtle11 (6,342,594 in chips) = $52,005.56
Seat 5: derlauf (8995406 in chips) = $64,747.44

Derlauf came on strong and took a big lead over BigTurtle11, though the latter did double once to 5.3 million chips.

Five hands later, the two got into another big hand. The reraised flop of 7♣ J♠ 6♣ prompted derlauf to bet and BigTurtle11 to call all-in with 10♥ J♣ 2♦ A♦ . But derlauf showed Q♥ Q♦ 5♠ 5♣ , which remained the best hand as the 9♦ turn and 3♦ river finished the board. BigTurtle11 took second place in the tournament for $62,005.56.

Derlauf of Germany captured the SCOOP title and $67,747.44 in prize money. Congrats!
