Donald Duck found yet another way to visit a SCOOP final table during tonight’s Event #38-M $215.00 buy-in H.O.R.S.E event. Anders “Donald” Berg has three WCOOP titles and was looking for an equal amount of SCOOP watches going into heads-up play against korjae for the win. Despite starting with a 2.1 million to 761K deficit, Berg would battle for that third champion’s watch for an hour as the players made it through all five disciplines. But, Anders would need to hold off on finding a place to put a sixth total piece of -COOP jewelry just yet as korjae took home the win and $22,259.20.

On the first hand back from the sixth hourly break there sat a trio of accomplished players sitting on the 81 player money bubble with just a few bets left. EDWARDHOPPER with several runner-up finishes in -COOP and Sunday Major tournaments and added a final table bubble in just a few days ago in Event #24-M, would hold under a big bet left tonight. But, as the tables finished up their Razz hands, EDWARDHOPPER would sneak into the money and started rolling up those chips to over 32K with bets at 2K4K ante 400 just 10 minutes later.

Mayu “marroca5” Roca who nearly claimed a second SCOOP watch in Event #29-M and banked a hefty $136K as the runner-up in Event #24-H would settle for the distinction of be the last without cash tonight as 80 players locked up at least $337.44.

EDWARDHOPPER’s chip-and-a-chair story would run all the way to 22nd place finishing just ahead of two players who seem to be making a comeback. SCOOP 2010 Event #13-H’s champ James “mig.com” Mackey 26th place ($710.40) and Crisper, who took third place for $263K during the SCOOP 2009 Main Event-medium (and made the Event #38-H final table tonight), would finish out in 29th place ($710.40).

Down to the final two tables a familiar Disney character popped up. Former Team Online’s Anders “Donald” Berg would be looking for his third SCOOP title after claiming Event #16-H last year for over $64K. Another player that may have been mentioned a few times during this tournament series was looking for his seventh final table and fifth overall SCOOP title. Calvin “cal42688” Anderson currently leads the overall Player of the Series race by 30 points over Isidinho with two runner-up finishes and 55 points beyond the bubble boy of this tourney, Maya “marroca5” Roca.

Another impressive stat from Anderson’s SCOOP run is the amount of tournaments entered, as it appears that Calvin and Team PokerStars Pro George Danzer have entered every event of the 2014 SCOOP series, all 108 of them thus far. That’s a lot of caffeine and cards. One more thing about Anderson… he was also sitting on the final two tables of Event #38’s high buy-in with a shot at a double final table tonight.

Only 11 of the original 592 players would make it to the ninth hourly break. One of them, nyc_bullets, got a front-row seat to one of Anderson’s SCOOP titles, (2010 Event #17-L) finishing in fifth place and could have a four-year reunion after the break. Thiago “XTheDecanoX” Nishijima took a huge lead into the Event #4-H final table but walked away in third place for $79K. Tonight, Thiago was back in good form near the chip lead held by Nikolo5.

nyc_bullets would get revenge tonight as Calvin could not make any headway after the break and with his last 40,954 chips he would three-bet all-in against nyc_bullets and Nikolo5 during Omaha Hi/Lo with the bets at 16K/32K. A flopped straight for nyc_bullets’ K♥ K♣ 9♥ J♦ on the J♣ Q♦ 10♦ 6♦ 7♥ board would leave Anderson’s A♥ 5♣ 3♣ 5♦ drawing dead after the turn and earning $1,480.00 in ninth place (but still hopeful in the High buy-in).

Razz would start up the final table as the bets moved up to 20K/40K and bizshark pressed a 4♥ 9♣ / A♣ 6♥ 6♠ Q♣ start and korjae called all bets leading out on a possible seven on sixth street 2♠ 3♣ / A♥ Q♠ 3♥ 7♦ . korjae would hit the seven low 5♦ locking out bizshark who managed a nine 2♣ as the final table started up below:

Flopped straight holds?

As an Omaha player, this author is often skeptical of the flopped straight (with good reason). However, in hold em’ they tend to hold up with a higher percentage given two less cards. With the bets up to 25K/50K Thiago “XTheDecanoX” Nishijima would raise from the button as gloria1986 three-bet from the small blind. Nishijima capped as gloria1986 called to see a coordinated 7♣ 9â™  8â™  flop. gloria1986 would check-call the flop and check-call the 9♣ turn while Thiago was all-in holding king-high K♥ Qâ™  . gloria1986 however held the flopped straight J♦ 10â™  negating any need for the river card as Nishijima claimed $1,776.00 in eighth place.

Shot down on sixth

Stud could claim the tournament life of nyc_bullets as the bets moved up to 40K/80K ante 8K. Holding just 101,227 chips to start the hand, nyc_bullets would trade a few bets with korjae holding a nine in the door until the shortstack was all-in. korjae would show wired sevens that grew to trips and a full house 7â™  7♣ / 6♥ 5â™  9â™  7♥ / 5♦ that would knock off nyc_bullets’ kings up 9♦ 2♥ / 9♥ K♥ 4♥ Kâ™  / A♦ to leave in seventh place ($2,664.00).

Opening the flood gates

There was a half hour gap between Thiago and nyc_bullets leaving the table. Our next three eliminations would take place in under five minutes. Two hands later still playing Stud, gloria1986 would raise a five as MoneyEvil made it three bets with a nine as korjae with a ten and gloria1986 called. korjae bet on fourth as both players stayed in. Fifth street korjae checked as gloria1986 stepped up and bet as MoneyEvil check-raised all-in for 92,955 total as korjae and gloria1986 called. korjae and gloria1986 bet-called on both sixth and seventh as korjae turned up a king-high flush 10♠ K♣ / 10♣ 2♣ 5♣ K♠ / 6♣ causing both gloria1986 and sixth place ($4,144.00) MoneyEvil to muck.

Having burnt through most of the chips in the previous hand gloria1986 only had 28,539 left. Still playing Stud, korjae would raise to isolate gloria1986’s micro-stack as gloria1986 actually found a great starting hand with wired kings K♣ K♥ / 5♥ 9♣ Jâ™  6♦ / 6♣ . However, two pair was not enough as korjae found trips on sixth and a boat on seventh Q♣ 7â™  / 10♥ 10♣ 8♦ 10♦ / 7♥ to finish in fifth place ($5,920.00).

Does not play well with others

Three hands, three eliminations. korjae would strengthen the chip lead on this hand after sweeping away 25% of the final table on the previous two.

Both players were betting on their starting pairs, Fred_Brink’s wired aces turned into a wheel A♦ A♥ / 5♦ 4â™  2♥ 5â™  / 3♣ . And had the game switched to Stud Hi/Lo Fred_Brink would have split the pot as korjae’s jacks turned into a queen-high straight 8♦ J♣ / J♦ Qâ™  9â™  8♥ / 10♦ to eliminate WCOOP 2011 Event #15 champ Fred_Brink in fourth place ($8,880.00).

Saving the best for last

After the elimination spree korjae took a breather to allow Anders and Nikolo5 to decide who would face the big chip leader heads-up for the SCOOP title. Still playing Stud with 40K/80K bets and ante 8K Nikolo5 would be all-in on fourth street and Berg came along for the ride after starting with a pair of aces A♥ J♦ / Aâ™  6♦ 4♥ K♦ / 9♥ . Nikolo5’s rivered pair of threes Kâ™  A♦ / 9â™  3â™  4♦ Q♥ / 3♦ never caught up taking away $11,958.40 in third place.

Number three will need to wait

Anders would battle through a big starting deficit to break even throughout the hour-long heads-up play. However, after a full run through the five letters, play for this event would end on the letter “E” in the hand below:

Anders “Donald” Berg – runner-up ($16,280.00)

All of Berg’s tournament funds would be in the middle by fifth street with Berg catching a pair of sixes on fourth 6â™  2♦ / 9♥ 6♥ 8♣ 3♦ / K♣ . The unimproved sixes were not enough as korjae also caught a pair of fourth 10♦ J♦ / 5â™  10♥ 4â™  6♦ / 4♦ as the tens and fours equaled the SCOOP 2014 Event #38-M title as $22,259.20 for korjae!
