Home / Uncategorized / SCOOP 2014: krzyeyeskila sees way through crazy fast Event #45-H ($1,050 NLHE Wrap-Up, Turbo, Re-Entry)

They called it the “Wrap-Up,” this last event on the 2014 Spring Championship of Online Poker schedule. One last chance to play, with up to three re-entries available as well for those desiring one final, final, final chance at a coveted watch and SCOOP title.

This Event #45-H — the “high” version of the no-limit hold’em Wrap-Up sporting a $1,050 price tag — would draw 1,789 total entries after all the re-entering was done, and after a little over four hours of turbo-fueled, rapid-fire action it was Costa Rica’s krzyeyeskila claiming the title and a $228,947.47 first prize following a five-handed final table deal.

And what a final table it was, with Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis just missing out on a ‘COOP Triple Crown by finishing runner-up, and Emil “Emilohlsson” Ohlsson, Alex “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis, Christer “lennart” Johansson, and Jon “PearlJammer” Turner all coming close to a title as well. Here’s the story of how they all got there, and of how krzyeyeskila made it through to victory.

Finding a final table

Within the first minute of players taking their seats for Event #45-M one had already lost his when T.J. “1BigAceHole” Ulmer picked up A♣ A♦ and felted Faraz “The-Toilet 0” Jaka who’d been dealt K♣ Kâ™  .

Jaka chose not to re-enter, but many others knocked out during the initial 90-minute re-entry period did. Ultimately there would be 1,209 unique players taking 580 re-entries for 1,789 total entries in the event. That meant a prize pool of $1,789,000, more than double the tourney’s $750K guarantee.

It would take only two hours and 20 minutes for the field to play down to 216 and the money, at which point a$$ou sat in first position. There were three red spades left in the counts once the money was reached — George “Jorj95” Lind and Randy “nanonoko” Lew of Team Online, and Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden.

It wasn’t long, however, before a short-stacked Lodden fell in a hand versus BostonG12 to finish in 170th ($2,236.25). Lind lasted nearly half an hour longer before becoming short himself and then falling to ShippityShip to go out in 62nd place ($4,293.60). And Lew hung on a bit longer before finally succumbing to globallud to make it to 36th ($6,082.60).

Soon they’d reached the three-hour break, and with 34 left Artem “roi kin23” Litvinov had become the new pace-setter. Fifteen minutes later they were down to 18, with krzyeyeskila on top as the only player with more than 1 million chips, and it would take only 15 minutes more for nine more to fall.

cocojamb0 next went out in 18th followed by Davin “mTw-DaviN” Georgi in 17th, the latter having entered twice, then after tumbling down the counts Artem “roi kin23” Litvinov exited in 16th, with those three all earning $8,050.50 for their finishes.

Seanallin99 was the next to go in 15th, then LR-President exited in 14th after firing three times in this one. globallud — in for four entries — next followed them to the rail in 13th, and those three each claimed $11,091.80 worth of the prize pool.

ShippityShip (having twice entered) went out in 12th, followed by babecallme in 11th and Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier who bought in four times in 10th, each cashing for $14,133.10.

The final table was underway with Emil “Emilohlsson” Ohlsson and krzyeyeskila close in chips for the lead. Interestingly, all nine of those making the final table had only entered a single time.

ninth for nimuuuh

It took a little over 10 minutes for the first knockout of the final table to occur.

The blinds were 40,000/80,000, and after nimuuuh open-shoved for 518,567 from early position, Alex “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis reraise-pushed from a couple of seats over and everyone else skedaddled.

It was A♦ 8♦ for nimuuuh and 10♦ 10♣ for Roumeliotis. The board came 5♦ 9â™  Q♥ 2♥ 10♥ , improving Sussie Smith further to a set and ending nimuuuh’s run in ninth.

Turner taken out in eighth

Roumeliotis would be responsible for the next final table knockout as well after taking care of the always tough Jon “PearlJammer” Turner in eighth

With the blinds up to 60,000/120,000, it folded around to Sussie Smith on the button who pushed all in for more than 935,000, then Turner called from the big blind with the 216,448 he had behind.

Turner showed 10♣ 7â™  and Roumeliotis A♥ 3♦ . The community cards came J♣ 9♦ 5♥ 5â™  K♣ , and Sussie Smith’s ace kicker was best as Turner was sent railward in eighth.

This marked Turner’s 12th cash in the 2014 SCOOP, and incredibly out of those dozen times making the money Turner has made final tables six times.

El Braulin bounced in seventh

Just two hands later, El Braulin open-raised all in from under the gun for 630,376 (just over five big blinds) and it folded to krzyeyeskila in the small blind who raised to 1,140,752. Chaz D 87 then called all in from the big blind for 363,669, and the three players’ cards were turned over:

krzyeyeskila: 7♠ 7♣
Chaz D 87: K♥ K♠
El Braulin: Q♠ 10♣

The board came 2♦ J♣ 5♥ , then 4â™  , then 5♣ , and Chaz D 87’s kings were still best. Meanwhile, El Braulin had been eliminated in seventh, having made a second final table in this year’s SCOOP after taking third in Event #9-H ($1,050 NLHE).

Johansson sent away in sixth

Two hands after that one, Christer “lennart” Johansson jammed for 962,834 from UTG, then chip leader krzyeyeskila reraise-shoved from middle position and everyone else folded.

Johansson had A♠ 5♣ but krzyeyeskila had the big advantage preflop with A♦ Q♠ . Five cards later krzyeyeskila still had the edge as the board rolled out A♣ 9♠ 9♣ 3♥ Q♥ , and Johnsson was done in sixth.

A former WCOOP winner, Johansson adds another big score here to an already impressive SCOOP series that includes nearly 20 cashes and five other final tables, good enough for a top five spot in the 2014 SCOOP Player of the Series race.

A five-way chop, then Roumeliotis rolls out in fifth

The four-hour break arrived, during which the remaining five decided to talk about a possible deal to divide up most of the remaining cash. At that point, krzyeyeskila still enjoyed the lead with about 3.4 million, Chaz D 87 was next in line with just under 1.8 million, Alex “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis was third with not quite 1.7 million, Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis was fourth with a little over 1.4 million, and Ohlsson was fifth with not quite 680,000.

“icm numbahs” requested Emil “Emilohlsson” Ohlsson, and soon “ICM”-based figures were presented with $15,000 set aside for which to play. A short bit of back-and-forthing followed, but soon all agreed to the terms as presented and with the deal being sealed, play continued.

The very first hand after play resumed saw Alex “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis open-push for 1,647,585 from under the gun, krzyeyeskila reraise-shove that leading stack from the button, and Ohlsson call all in for 542,727 from the big blind.

Sussie Smith: K♦ 10♥
krzyeyeskila: 7♣ 7♥
Emilohlsson: A♣ J♦

The community cards came 2♦ 9â™  3♥ , then 9♦ , then J♥ . The river jack saved Ohlsson from elimination, but Roumeliotis wasn’t so lucky and was out in fifth.

Not a bad day at all for Alex “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis, however, who besides the $173K-plus he earned in this event also won Event #41-H, the $21,000 NLHE Heads-Up High Roller, for a cool $294,175 score!

Chaz D 87 eighty-sixed in fourth

Soon the blinds increased again to 70,000/140,000, then Chaz D 87 opened with an all-in raise to 1,404,542 from UTG and krzyeyeskila called from the button.

Chaz D 87 had A♣ 3♥ and was hoping the hand would hold against krzyeyeskila’s Qâ™  Jâ™  . The Q♦ Aâ™  8♦ flop paired both players’ hands, then the J♦ fell on fourth street to give krzyeyeskila a second pair and the lead. The river was the 7â™  , and Chaz D 87 was out in fourth.

Ohlsson out in third

Five hands later, a short-stacked Emil “Emilohlsson” Ohlsson open-raised all in for 874,012 from the small blind and Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis called from the next seat.

Ohlsson had K♦ 10♦ and Lewis A♣ J♥ . The flop came A♦ 2♥ K♠ and Ohlsson was still behind. The turn was the Q♥ and river the 9♠ , and Ohlsson was out in third.

Ohlsson adds further to a great SCOOP series that has included more than a dozen cashes and a final table in Event #15-M ($82 NLHE, Ante Up) where he finished seventh.

krzyeyeskila’s eyes on the prize after defeating Lewis heads-up

With that hand Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis had narrowed the gap between himself and krzyeyeskila and they started heads-up play nearly event with krzyeyeskila having 4,575,150 and Lewis 4,369,850. Each wished the other “gl” in the chatbox, and their battle commenced.

Lewis was gunning for the third leg in a ‘COOP “Triple Crown” as he had already won a WCOOP in 2013 (in a $215 NLHE Turbo with rebuys) and a TCOOP the year before (in a $55 NLHE Knockout event).

Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis

Lewis came close once before in this year’s SCOOP, finishing third in Event #25-H ($1,050 Mixed NLHE/PLO). Alas for 810ofclubs, he’d have another near miss in this one, too.

Heads-up play would last exactly 13 hands. On the sixth hand between the pair krzyeyeskila seized the advantage after winning a 3.4 million-plus pot without a showdown. Then with krzyeyeskila up to about 6.62 million and Lewis down to about 2.32 million, the final hand took place.

The blinds were 100,000/200,000 with a 25,000 ante, and Lewis began the action by open-pushing all in for 2,298,850 from the button. krzyeyeskila called without hesitation, showing A♠ J♥ while Lewis had a couple of live cards with Q♥ 4♠ .

The board came 10♣ 5♥ 9â™  6â™  7♥ , and just four hours and 17 minutes after it had started, the “high” version of the NLHE “wrap-up” had wrapped up, with krzyeyeskila the winner.

And kudos as well to Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis, Emil “Emilohlsson” Ohlsson, Chaz D 87, and Alex “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis, all of whom earned handsome paydays as well thanks to the five-handed final table deal.
