Home / Uncategorized / SCOOP 2015: aaa1 is a-number-one in #41-L ($55 PLO 6-Max, 3-Stack)

The two-day $55 PLO “3-Stack” #41-L event drew a huge field of 2,855, thereby building a $142,750 prize pool that nearly tripled the event’s $50K guarantee. The top 360 finishers divided those riches, with the U.K.’s aaa1 ending up taking away the largest share after winning the watch and a $19,487.67 prize following a three-way final table deal.

By the end of Day 1 they were down to exactly 12 players gathered around the last two six-handed tables, with KKoverhere leading the counts with over 7.2 million with the blinds at 50K/100K.

Here’s how the chip counts page looked to begin Day 2:

1. KKoverhere (Ireland) — 7,241,865
2. PolecatRider (Germany) — 6,901,864
3. bzola (United Kingdom) — 4,254,026
4. PokerikdeB (Netherlands) — 4,179,392
5. Heaven1991 (Germany) — 4,164,196
6. aaa1 (United Kingdom) — 3,866,768
7. DonPiPo88 (Austria) — 3,752,137
8. KAZAN2301 (Ukraine) — 3,067,836
9. apertens (Canada) — 2,245,421
10. Rekkon_82 (United Kingdom) — 1,377,989
11. ZanOcu v Dom (Russia) — 887,236
12. Andrey “ThePateychuk” Pateychuk (Russia) — 886,270

apertens (12th), ZanOcu v Dom (11th), and Andrey “ThePateychuk” Pateychuk (10th) were swiftly eliminated after play resumed Sunday, with each earning $1,249.06. Over the course of the next hour-and-a-half PolecatRider (ninth), DonPiPo88 (eighth), and eventually bzola (seventh) would successively hit the rail, each taking away $1,713.

With Heaven1991 having become the chip leader with six players left, the final table was underway.

Seat 1: Rekkon_82 (United Kingdom) — 4,520,978
Seat 2: KKoverhere (Ireland) — 4,570,351
Seat 3: KAZAN2301 (Ukraine) — 7,004,940
Seat 4: aaa1 (United Kingdom) — 6,321,181
Seat 5: PokerikdeB (Netherlands) — 2,138,784
Seat 6: Heaven1991 (Germany) — 18,268,766

The short stacks would survive their first few all-ins of the final table, then a hand arose that saw aaa1 make a 3x raise to 1.2 million from the small blind, PokerikdeB three-bet shove for a little under 2.6 million from the big blind, and aaa1 call.

aaa1 had Q♣ J♣ Jâ™  9♦ and the preflop edge over PokerikdeB’s A♣ 5♣ 5♥ 4♥ , although a 4♣ 7â™  K♣ flop provided some hope for the latter in the form of a flush draw. But the turn was the 10â™  and river the K♦ , and PokerikdeB was out in sixth.

The remaining five all made it to the day’s two-hour break, by which point aaa1 had built up to take the chip lead away from Heaven1991.

A few minutes after play resumed, KKoverhere opened with a pot-sized button raise to 1.75 million and aaa1 called. The flop came A♥ J♥ K♠ , and when aaa1 led with a pot-sized bet KKoverhere called all in with the 3.42 million left.

aaa1 had A♣ Q♠ 8♥ 7♥ , having flopped a pair of aces with a flush draw, while KKoverhere had K♣ K♥ Q♦ 3♣ for a set of kings. The turn was the 6♥ , giving aaa1 the flush, then the Q♥ on the river sealed it to send KKoverhere over the rail in fifth.

A couple of short-handed orbits later KAZAN2301 opened for 1.5 million from the small blind, aaa1 reraised to 4.5 million from the big blind, KAZAN2301 pushed for just over that amount — about 4.57 million — and aaa1 called.

KAZAN2301 was looking for small cards with 6♣ 5â™  4♣ 3â™  while aaa1 had K♦ K♣ 9♦ 8â™  . The board ran out 2â™  A♦ K♥ 6♦ 8♣ , giving aaa1 a set of kings again while KAZAN2301’s pair of sixes meant a fourth-place elimination.

The remaining trio played on a short while, then paused for some deal talk with aaa1 the big leader with 22.65 million, Rekkon_82 next with 11.56 million, and Heaven1991 third with 8.61 million.

Both “chip chop” and “ICM”-based figures were proposed, leaving $1,000 for which to play in each case. Leader aaa1 liked the “chip chop” numbers while Heaven1991 said “take ICM or play!” and Rekkon_82 also championed the ICM method. After some thought aaa1 agreed to those terms, and a deal was made.

All three then made it to the 400K/800K level, but by then aaa1 had over 38 million while the other two were both below 3 million.

Soon Heaven1991 was open-pushing all in for just over 2.5 million from the button with Q♣ 8â™  5♦ 4♣ , aaa1 was calling from the big blind with A♣ 10♦ 8♣ 5â™  , and after a 3♥ 9♦ K♥ 9♥ K♣ runout hit neither player’s hand, Heaven1991 had landed in third.

Rekkon_82 managed to double up once and was up over 6.6 million versus the 36.1 million of aaa1. Then came a hand in which aaa1 limped in, Rekkon_82 checked, and the flop came A♦ 10♣ 6♥ .

Rekkon_82 checked, aaa1 bet 800,000, Rekkon_82 check-raised to 4 million (leaving just under 1.9 million behind), and aaa1 called. Rekkon_82 then pushed the rest in following the J♥ turn, and aaa1 called again.

Rekkon_82: A♣ 6â™  4♣ 2♦ — aces and sixes
aaa1: 9â™  8♦ 7♥ 2♥ — a wrap draw, plus a flush draw

The Q♣ fell on the river, one of many outs for aaa1 as it completed a queen-high straight draw, and aaa1 was the champion.

Congratulations to aaa1 for topping more than 2,800 players to win Event #41-L, and kudos to Rekkon_82 and Heaven1991 as well for making it to the three-way deal and securing nice returns of their own on the tourney’s $55 buy-in.
