The final day of the 2015 Spring Championship of Online Poker featured a series of big field, big prize pool events. Six tournaments were large enough to warrant a bonus Day 2 to get through their entire field without sleep deprivation coming into play.

The medium $215 buy-in version of Event 44 was a Sunday Warm-Up Special Edition that nearly doubled its guarantee. The big brains in the front office put a $600,000 guaranteed prize pool on this tournament and it ended up being just three players shy of making it $1,200,000.

The final numbers showed 5,597 players getting in the game to create the $1,119,400 prize pool with the last 720 players set to get a piece. A min-cash was worth $358 while the champion was scheduled to put $173,106 in their pockets.

It was one of the final tournaments in a series which awarded an astounding $76,520,051.72 across all manner of events and poker variants. The last six tournament alone paid out $17,000,000 with most of the big money reserved for the final bonus day grinders.

They played 25 levels at 20 minute each before pausing the clock with 192 remaining. Former Super Tuesday champion Sergi “srxakgirona” Reixach was the overnight chip leader followed closely by the Ukraine’s DenKiev3. Jennifer “jenium” Shahade was the only member of Team PokerStars to make it through the first day but the world-class chess champion did not play a part in the latter stages of the tournament.

They returned 12 hours later and wouldn’t stop until they crowned one of the last SCOOP champions of the year. Former Sunday Warm-Up champion Jorge “jorginho88” Abreu ran deep but missed out on the final table along with 2014 TCOOP Sunday Warm-Up final tablist Merfinis and 2015 SCOOP Event 3-M runner-up Kurtkaare.

It was the elimination of another former Sunday Warm-Up final table member, JEKAAA7, that put the tournament in hand-for-hand mode on this final table bubble when Kâ™  K♣ couldn’t beat A♦ K♦ .

They played 29 hands to make it to the final table with several doubles up along the way. The table was set in a big three-way pot that saw former MicroMillions champ trzcinek get all-in with 9♣ 9♦ versus the Q♥ Q♣ of Adam “Adamyid” Owen and 7â™  7♦ over BillyDaKidZZ. The Sevens never caught up and he was eliminated in 9th while Owen moved up to 8.7 million.

Leo “ISILDRooN” Nordin had a huge lead going into the final table but Owen was probably looking for some redemption. He had a deep run in SCOOP Event 5-H but ran squarely into the start of Jason Mercier’s monster series. Owen finished second to Mercier in that event and was looking to improve that result.

paleta25 jacked up, eliminated in 8th

paleta25 was one of the players who doubled up during the last hand-for-hand portion and found another spot to try again with a big pair. The UK grinder open shoved just six hands into the final table with J♥ J♦ and GiveMeUp moved all-in over the top.

The reshove got the two heads up and paleta25 had to be happy to see GiveMeUp table 10♦ 10♥ . The joy was short lived when the flop came 10♣ 7♦ 3♥ to leave paleta25 drawing thin to stay alive. It all fell short when the board completed 6♠ 9♣ to send him out in 8th place for $7,835.

Flshman phished out, eliminated in 7th

Flshman was now the short stack at the table and watched a full orbit go by without getting involved. It took another pair of Jacks to get things cooking at the final table again.

Flshman picked up J♣ J♠ in the cut-off and min-raised to see a three-bet from Owen on the button to 824,505. The blinds let their hands go and Flshman moved in for 2,965,832 total. Owen called with A♠ J♥ to set Flshman up for the likely double.

Not wasting any time, the A♣ 8♥ 7♥ flop hit Owen’s single over card and pocket Jacks once again sent someone down in flames. Flshman finished in 7th place for $13,992 plus the knowledge it took a bad beat to get him out.

Owen takes the lead from Nordin

In a battle between the top two stacks, there was a big switch in the chip counts. Owen raised it up from early position and called after Leo “ISILDRooN” Nordin three-bet to 1,150,001. Owen checked/called a 1,250,000 bet after the Kâ™  Q♥ 9â™  flop and another check/call of 3,150,000 on the Jâ™  turn.

One final check from Owen after the 5♥ river and Nordin put out 6,250,000 with Ace-high A♠ 8♣ . Owen made the correct call and tabled Q♦ 10♠ for the straight to drag the 24,000,000 chip pot.

Seat 1: Leo “ISILDRooN” NOrdin (9,951,835 in chips)
Seat 2: GiveMeUP (3,714,029 in chips)
Seat 3: BillyDaKidXX (5,136,455 in chips)
Seat 4: Jack “jAkDAriPAA” O’Neill (5,634,944 in chips)
Seat 6: Adam “Adamyid” Owen (28,563,673 in chips)
Seat 7: DenKiev3 (2,969,064 in chips)
Blinds: 125k/250k with 31,250 ante

GiveMeUP rick-rolled out the door, eliminated in 6th

Two hands after Owen took the lead, GiveMeUp made a move that didn’t work out very well in the end. He open shoved for 3,651,529 from the cut-off with J♥ 9♥ and was looked up by Jack “jAkDAriPAA” O’Neill in the small blind with A♦ J♣ .

GiveMeUp was dominated but added a gutshot straight draw on the 8♣ 7♣ 7♠ flop. That was as close as he got as the board finished Q♣ 4♠ to send him out in 6th place for $30,783.

DenKiev3 chases GiveMeUp out the door, eliminated in 5th

The final table was moving along at a nice clip despite the deep stacks and DenKiev3 next at risk before GiveMeUp’s virtual seat had event cooled off. He stood up to the big stack on the very next hand and paid for it.

Action folded to Owen in the small blind and he shoved against DenKiev3 in the big blind, easily having him covered. DenKiev3 called with K♣ 9♣ and was behind but had two live cards against Aâ™  7♥ . Those live cards didn’t matter very much when the flop came 8♦ 7♣ 7â™  .

DenKiev3 was drawing thin, then dead on the 3♦ turn to go out in 5th place for $53,171. A nice payday for the player who began Day 2 with the second biggest stack.

Let’s (not) make a deal

The four remaining players went on their top-of-the-hour break and began preliminary discussions about a possible chop deal. They all clicked the correct button to extend the break and were provided the ICM numbers.

Adam “Adamyid” Owen – 31,798,808
Jack “jAkDAriPAA” O’Neill – 12,749,292
BillyDaKidXX – 5,994,886
Leo “ISILDRooN” Nordin – 5,427,014

Adam “Adamyid” Owen – $140,221.50
Jack “jAkDAriPAA” O’Neill – $116,840.30
BillyDaKidXX – $99,980.45
Leo “ISILDRooN” Nordin – $97,906.81

Those numbers left $12,000 behind for the winner but negotiations crashed down early. BillyDaKidXX continued to insist on getting $105,000 and none were able to talk him lower. After 10 minutes of chatter, they decided to just put the cards back in action with no deal.

ISILDRooN chopped in half and out, eliminated in 4th

Nothing went well for Nordin after the negotiations broke down and he lost two huge hands within a few orbits. The first had him moving all-in from the small blind with 9♦ 8♠ and BillyDaKidXX called in the big blind with A♣ 4♦ .

Nordin needed to hit to send BillyDaKidXX out of the game but they each missed the entire K♠ 10♥ 3♣ Q♥ 5♣ board to double BillyDaKidXX. Nordin lasted another orbit before mixing it up again, this time with a shove after Owen opened from under the gun.

Owen called with 8♠ 6♦ and Nordin was ahead pre-flop for the double with Q♣ J♣ . The 9♠ 8♦ 7♠ flop gave Owen the lead while it added a gutshot draw for Nordin. The 7♥ turn and A♣ river were unable to save his day and Nordin was done in 4th place for $75,559.

BillyDaKidXX shot down, eliminated in 3rd

Even with his earlier double, BillyDaKidXX was still looking up at the other two players as they ground out another 30 minutes without a major hand. BillyDaKidXX saw a good spot to get his chips in the middle and shoved after Owen opened from the small blind.

Owen called with K♦ Q♦ but was behind BillyDaKidXX’s A♣ K♣ right up until the K♥ Q♥ 7♦ flop. Owen’s top two left BillyDaKidXX in trouble and he was unable to catch up on the 8â™  turn or 8♣ river. He collected $97,947 for his 3rd place finish, just a little shy of the $105,000 he requested or the $99,980 he could have locked up.

Seat 4: Jack “jAkDAriPAA” O’Neill (10,901,359 in chips)
Seat 6: Adam “Adamyid” Owen (45,068,641 in chips)
Blinds: 200k/400k with 50k ante

O’Neill doubles back into the game

Owen began heads up play with a very healthy lead but most of it evaporated in just a few hands. O’Neill got himself back in the game when he four-bet shoved with 4â™  4♦ and Owen called with A♥ Q♥ to set up a race for the title.

The board ran out K♥ 6â™  3♥ 3â™  6♣ to give the hand to O’Neill and make the game a little more evenly matched.

Seat 4: Jack “jAkDAriPAA” O’Neill (22,702,718 in chips)
Seat 6: Adam “Adamyid” Owen (33,267,282 in chips)
Blinds: 200k/400k with 50k ante

jAkDAriPAA battles back to win Event 44-M

The two players paused the clock once again in an attempt to make a deal, and once again it fell through. They each negotiated for more cash but they couldn’t agree on anything other than restarting the action.

The chip lead swapped a few times between to the two players with each getting short before finding a double up. O’Neill was the last one to survive an all-in when he was at risk then chipped Owen down until he had to make a move one hour after the heads up match began.

The final hand turned out to be a race when Owen opened for a min-raise and O’Neill put him all-in with A♦ 9♣ . Owen took his time to think it through but eventually called with 8♦ 8♥ . He needed to dodge the over cards to stay alive but O’Neill moved ahead on the A♥ 3♥ 3♦ flop. The 7â™  turn left Owen with just with two outs and neither appeared on the last J♥ river.

It was the second big runner-up finish for Owen, after his second place result against Jason Mercier in Event 5-H, but the $120,335 he collected should help ease those pains. O’Neill earned his first major online title along with $173,106 and a sweet Movada watch.
