Home / Uncategorized / SCOOP 2015: WRUUUUM denies cal42688 a 5th SCOOP title with a wicked win in Event #7-H [$700+R NL Hold’em]

Going into the 2015 SCOOP, Calvin “cal42688” Anderson was considered one of the most successful players in the history of SCOOP. With 4 career wins, cal42688 was good enough to top the all-time list of SCOOP victories tied at 5 with Shaun Deeb. Alas, Finland’s WRUUUUM spoiled a potential history-setting day for cal42688. WRUUUUM knocked out cal42688 in fifth place and thwarted his attempt at title #6. That decisive hand ignited a major rush for WRUUUUM, who went on to win Event #7-H.

2015 SCOOP Event #7-H $700 NL Rebuys was a two-day event that attracted 501 runners. They added 445 re-buys and 421 add-ons to create a prize pool worth $909,055, which nearly doubled the initial guarantee. The top 63 places paid out with $172,720.65 originally set aside to the champion.

At the end of Day 1, only 27 players were left in the hunt for a SCOOP title. Sweden’s el_klonkador ended Day 1 as the chip leader with 496K, followed by cal42688’s 404K. Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier ended Day 1 in the middle of the pack with 127K, good enough for 14th overall.

Mercier’s run ended early on Day 2. Short-stacked Mercier took A♦ J♦ into a three-way battle against Kekkhou’s 8♦ 8â™  and WRUUUUM’s Aâ™  K♣ . The board finished up J♥ 10♥ 2♣ K♦ 6♥ . Mercier hit the flop and took the lead with a pair of Jacks, but a King on the turned sealed his fate. Mercier busted in 21st place.

With 18 to go on the final two tables, el_klonkador extended his lead and chipped up to 631K, almost 200K more than cal42688 in second place. At the start of Level 25, apestyles seized the lead when he took out shopeador in 16th place with Q♦ Q♥ vs. J♥ J♠ . For most of that level, apestyles and WRUUUUM jockeyed for the top position with el_klonkador and shurgar right behind. With 11 to go at the onset of Level 26, WRUUUUM held onto the top spot with 820K.

With 10 to go and action hand-for-hand, el_klonkador whiffed on a flush draw with Q♥ J♥ against apestyles’ Aâ™  Q♦ , and  el_klonkador bubbled off the final table in tenth place.
