SCOOP 2017: Bonomo snags second SCOOP title in Event #25-H ($2,100 8-Game)

May 14, 2017

The beauty of the Spring Championship of Online Poker is that players are not locked into bankroll or game constraints. Low limit grinders have the low limit buy-ins while mixed game players have non-hold em’ event ranging from no limit omaha eight-or-better to five-card draw.

The final pairing for Event #25-H’s $150,000 guarantee 8-Game tournament would feature two players who have already proven their meddle playing the 8-game mix. But, after an hour long heads-up battle, Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo would claim the victory, $95,680.00, and his second overall SCOOP title.

Read on below for the path to his win.

The overnight chip leader, Iteopepe88, has been in this position to capture a -COOP before. Holding the most funds with five players left in the 2010 World Championship of Online Poker’s Event #3 and a final table run in last year’s WCOOP 8-game $10K championship event (finishing sixth).

Further down the chip count one would find a couple of multiple -COOP winners. Dzmitry “Colisea” Urbanovich who has a -COOP title (two SCOOPs and one WCOOP) each year in the last three years. Andrey “Kroko-dill” Zaichenko is also looking to add -COOP title number four (after missing out earlier this week at the Event #-16 final table won by Charlie Carrel) to go along with his Sunday Million win.

Dzmitry “Colisea” Urbanovich

Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo already has a final table in this series (Event #6-H) after overcoming a two and half hour bubble and took the chip lead into the eight-game 2016 World Series of Poker $50K buy-in Player’s Championship final table (losing heads-up to Brian Rast). Plenty of practice (and chips) for potentially taking down this SCOOP title.

After condensing to two tables, RunGodLike was brought down from the heavens in 11th place adding another near-miss this series taking tenth in Event #22-H. Zaichenko’s exit in tenth place came a few hands later thanks to Senkel92 who won Event #21-L yesterday. And those chips would not lead Senkel92 to another title this series after shipping a stack to Iteopepe88 during the Stud round and finishing in eighth place.

While it was not over two hours, Bonomo would survive the nearly hour-long final table bubble. On the three-handed table EPUBLI2005 would double off DSmunichlife then denied DSmunichlife a second 2017 SCOOP final table (third place in Event #9-H) after rivering a straight in the PLO round to start up the final table below:

Seat 1: Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo (153373 in chips)
Seat 2: lulDocuments (334081 in chips)
Seat 3: Maxxx72alba (49456 in chips)
Seat 4: RaúlGonzalez (439204 in chips)
Seat 5: EPUBLI2005 (213627 in chips)
Seat 6: Iteopepe88 (890259 in chips)

We would say hi and goodbye to Maxxx72alba as the short-stack was gone after six hands. With the betting up to 8K/16K in the triple draw round Maxxx72alba would be all-in pre-draw with Bonomo, EPUBLI2005, and lulDocuments making the call. EPUBLI2005 would bet after the first draw with Bonomo following along, but shook him loose after standing pat and betting the second draw. EPUBLI2005’s 3♥ 4♣ 6♠ 7♣ 9♥ nine-seven was good against Maxxx72alba’s busted wheel draw 7♠ 2♠ 5♠ 3♦ 5♣ taking away $17,056.00 in sixth place.

For the hour after Maxxx72alba’s departure it looked like Iteopep88 and RaúlGonzalez would grab the stacks of the other three with little effort. However, Bonomo flourished during the O.R.S.E. portion of the mix after being all-in a few times during limit hold em’ and O8. Mid-way through Stud 8 Bonomo would get into a three-way hand with RaúlGonzalez and EPUBLI2005 who was all-in on sixth street. Bonomo bet the river and revealed two pair 3♥ A♥ / 6♥ J♥ 3♦ Q♠ / 6♠ after RaúlGonzalez got out of the way. EPUBLI2005’s pocket fives never improved 5♥ 5♠ / 3♠ 4♥ 9♦ Q♥ / 10♣ earning $24,960.00 in fifth place.

In a tense three-way pot right before the fourth hourly break of the day, it looked like we could be down to heads-up play. Playing no limit hold em’, RaúlGonzalez would min-raise with the blinds at 8K/16K ante 1K as Bonomo called. LulDocuments, deep once again after making the final table of Event #21-H, would shove 68K as RaúlGonzalez tried to pinch off Bonomo with a four-bet to 165K. It did not work as Bonomo shoved for 551K and RaúlGonzalez folded. Pocket sevens for Bonomo 7♦7♠ needed the flopped set 5♣ 7♣ 10♥ K♠ A♠ against lulDocuments’ A♥K♥ as the latter acquired $33,280.00 in fourth place.

Chip counts after hour four:
Seat 1: Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo (788,775 in chips)
Seat 4: RaúlGonzalez (354,462 in chips)
Seat 6: Iteopepe88 (936,763 in chips)

Last hand of the same no limit hold em’ round would be no less exciting. After a raise from the button by Iteopepe88 both blinds called to see two clubs hit the flop 4♣ 2♣ 5♠. Bonomo would check as RaúlGonzalez jumped in and bet almost 20K as Iteopepe88 called. Bonomo check-raised to 88K as RaúlGonzalez took a couple of ticks from the time bank before shoving for 264K. Iteopepe88 politely declined despite covering both players as Bonomo made the call turning over the ace-high flush and inside straight draw A♣9♣ against RaúlGonzalez’s open-ended straight and lower flush draw. Neither would hit the turn 5♦ nor river 8♥ as RaúlGonzalez would not add a second SCOOP title (last year Event #17-H) receiving $49,920.00 in third place.

Not much for quibbling, as the chat box remained silent for nearly all of the final table. Iteopepe88 tries to go wire-to-wire in day two while Bonomo attempts to notch his second SCOOP title in Event #25-H.

Throughout the hour-long match in seemed Justin had the upper hand with the limit games and put together a string of wins during the Razz level to claim his second title.

With the betting limits at 24K/48K ante 4.8K Iteopepe88 was down to a shade over three BBs getting it all-in by sixth street flipping up 3♣ 2♣ / Q♣ 6♠ K♥ 9♣ a queen-nine as Bonomo turned over 8♠ K♣ / 4♥ 3♦ K♠ 2♦ for a king-eight. Ten 10♥ on the river would improve Iteopepe88’s hand but Bonomo snagged a six 6♥ for the winning eight-six worth $95,680.00!
