TODAY’S HEADLINES

• “ClockWyze” Pantling arrives on time for PLO victory
• Quenneville wins second career SCOOP title
• “Anjeyyy” leads race for second $5K victory
• Fintan Hand in slow-roll scandal!

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Andrew “ClockWyze” Pantling: Clocking in

“ClockWyze” back on time for latest Pantling win: Andrew Pantling, known as “ClockWyze” on PokerStars, is one of poker’s most fascinating characters. He picks and chooses his appearances at the felt, going months or even years without playing much, but then showing up at the showcase events and going very deep. He has made the final table of the One Drop, and is a former runner up at the EPT Grand Final, and finished third at a WCOOP $10K 8-Game in 2015. Pantling is now also a SCOOP champion, and true to form, he did it in a big one. He won the $5,200 PLO Second Chance Main Event, banking $169,239.47 for beating a 167-entry field. Pantling’s final opponent – after Andras “probirs” Nemeth (ninth), Konstantin “krakukra” Maslak (fifth), Chun Lei “SamRostan” Zhou (fourth) and Noah “Exclusive” Boeken (third) were all knocked out – was Finland’s “zumbapoker”. And after a heads-up duel lasting around an hour, Pantling ground zumbapoker down and claimed another win for Canada. (Both the medium and low versions of the PLO Main Event still have one more day to run and currently have 12 and 17 players left, respectively.)

Troy Quenneville: Second title is a few notches bigger than his first

Quenneville moving through the ranks: In a career of more than 12 years, Troy “teckidtq” Quenneville has amassed online tournament cashes of more than $5.8 million, according to the Pocket Fives database. Last night, Quenneville put a new result at the very top of his tournament ledger with victory in SCOOP-95-H: $1,050 NLHE PKO, the special edition of the Sunday Warm-Up. Even before adding in the $65,487 Quenneville won in bounties, the $76,478.29 was his biggest career score, surpassing the $75,000 he won in the Super Tuesday in 2017. Combine everything from last night, and his $141,965.50 makes this Canadian very happy indeed. It isn’t his first title in SCOOP. In 2015, Quenneville won a $27 NL 2-7 Single Draw title, which came with a $4,965.65 prize. His career has progressed in just about every way since then.

“Anjeyyy” aims for $5K double: As you might expect, the $5,200 Second Chance Main Event is down to a final table every bit as star studded as its first, led by Ukraine’s “Anjeyyy“, who already has one High Roller tournament to his name this year. Anjeyyy won SCOOP-44-H for $253,819.24 earlier in the series, but to add another victory will need to overcome a last nine including Pascal “Pass_72” Lefrancois, Timothy “Tim0thee” Adams, William “hellzito” Arruda, “Kzzon”, “silskyer”, Pavel “silentm0de” Plesuv, “temka99” and Artem “veeea” Vezhenkov. And that’s after Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche and Jens “Graftekkel” Arends were knocked out in 10th and 11th, respectively, to set the final table. There’s $416,741.68 up top when the tournament plays to its conclusion today.

TWITCH WATCH

It was all going so well for Fintan “easywithaces” Hand in the $530 buy-in SCOOP-99, especially when he rivered a flush with Q8. He prepared the check-shove, going for the “greedy-bastard” sizing, but…well, he didn’t expect this:

Joris “BillLewinsky” Ruijs is one of the best players at the PokerStars table. But even someone like him can sometimes get a bit too attached to top pair. Here’s how Fintan’s aces saw for Ruijs:

FEATURE! FEATURE! FEATURE!

In our most recent SCOOP feature, we asked a long list of SCOOP champions to outline their roadmap to success. What did they do to get to the point that they were champion?

As ever, the answers were fascinating: they combined tons and tons of work, with patience and composure in the pressure situations. Add a few decent cards at the right time and the major title could be coming your way.

LEADER BOARD LATEST

Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira continues to lead the Player of the Series leader board (that’s a sentence that types itself) but the closing pack have far from given up. Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi, who is Ferreira’s closest challenger, is currently the chip leader of the 39 players left in SCOOP-101-H, while Konstantin “krakukra” Maslak’s final table in the PLO Main Event demonstrates that he is far from done in this series too.

Latest standings:

1 – Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira, Netherlands, 1,705 points
2 – Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi, UK, 1,420
3 – Konstantin “krakukra” Maslak, Russia, 1,370
4 – Muka82, Brazil, 1,170
5 – Körrinho, Austria, 1,150

(Prizes: 1st: $50,000 + Trophy; 2nd: $20,000; 3rd: $10,000)

COUNTRIES LEADER BOARD

It was an almost unprecedented day in SCOOP yesterday with no titles for players from either the UK or Brazil, and Russia only picking up a solitary success. Canadians took the two biggest events to conclude, while the rest of the titles were dotted around Europe. It didn’t impact too much on the top of the countries leader board, where the rest of the world might think it’s proving a bit too difficult now to catch the runaway Brits (and the country’s large cast of poker refugees):

Latest standings:

43: UK
37: Brazil
27: Russia
20: Germany
18: Netherlands
13: Canada
12: Ukraine
10: Norway
Nine: Austria
Eight: Mexico, Ireland
Seven: Sweden, Finland
Six: Greece
Five: Hungary, Belarus, China, Poland, Lithuania
Four: Argentina, Romania
Three: Peru
Two: Malta, Denmark, Belgium, Lebanon, Japan, Uruguay, Bulgaria, Croatia, Luxembourg
One: Kazakhstan, Slovakia, North Macedonia, South Korea, Czech Republic, Macau, Cyprus, Moldova, Latvia, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia.
