If SCOOP Event #33 was a live game, the tournament director or MC for the proceedings would have been hoarse from the multitude of “all-in and a call!” after the players returned from just the second hour of breaks. The $2,100 buy-in for the high version of tonight’s No Limit Omaha Eight or Better phased none of the 120 players from shoving all-in preflop and letting the five community card determine their fate. The 10 minute blinds were designed for people with the attention span of a three year old after downing a dozen pixie-stixs. Not designed for youth was the $240,000.00 prize pool gathered by those 120 runners, or the $60,000.00 set aside for tonight’s champion.

With the big buy-in brought the talent four card specialists and anyone able to stand the razor thin pre-flop advantages and dive-for-a-bottle inducing turns and rivers. Team PokerStars Pro Anders “Donald” Berg knows this game well regularly playing O8 for nosebleed stakes here at PokerStars but couldn’t get out of the gate tonight and busted before late registration closed. He was followed closely by SCOOP Player of the Series leading George “Jorj95” Lund who would not add to his lead in this tournament. Nor would second place in the standings, teacuppoker, gain any ground on Lund finishing in 104th place.

Only two Team PokerStars pros and 29 players would survive the third hour. Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and WSOP Main Event champ Joe Hachem were still in the running for those 15 spots paying out at least $5,040.00

Hachem would run his double suited A♦ K♦ 8â™  7â™  into former WCOOP O8 champ copi’s aces and get knocked down to just over one big blind and started to stage a comeback with back-to-back double ups. Unfortunately for the champ his end would come shortly after called pato1983’s push with 6♣ 2♦ A♥ 3♦ . pato1983 turned over a low wrap hand as well 3♣ 5♦ 7♥ A♦ and found running sevens on the K♣ 8♣ Kâ™  7â™  7♣ board (even though one was enough) and eliminated Hachem in 28th place.

Also getting knocked out near the bubble was Stuart “thedonator” Paterson” in 24th place, 2007 WCOOP Event #42 champ David “RugDoctor” Williams in 23rd place, and this year’s SCOOP Event #14-Low champ 7PRS in 21st place.

On the money bubble pato1983 would strike again, this time using aces and eights to take out escazu41 on the money bubble assuring our remaining 15 players of $5,040.00

ElkY would fall victim to a steamrolling boobySMILES who held the first six figure stack and added ElkY’s remaining 13,127 after his 10♥ 7â™  2â™  3♦ outran Grospellier’s A♦ Q♦ 4â™  7♦ on the 6â™  10â™  J♦ 3â™  9♦ board as ElkY was the last Team PokerStars Pro finishing in 14th place ($5,040.00).

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier 14th place

Just to show how quickly things change in NLO8, boobySMILES would go from chip leader to out in 11th place after doubling up copi and running into grebnret86’s aces on the very next hand.

The bubble would burst just as boobySMILES left the tourney on the adjacent table. With blinds at 1250/2500 ante 325, shortstacked TTheo_ would push over the top of plplaya’s min raise for 11,762 chips. plplaya made the call rolling over jacks A♣ J♦ 4♥ J♥ to TTheo_’s Aâ™  2♣ J♣ 5♥ . No low draw would come on the 10â™  10♥ 9♣ 3♦ 5♦ board and TTheo_ would be shut-out of the final table in tenth place ($5,760.00).

Let the fun begin!

No extra time for blinds just because these players handed over the most money tonight, all Event #33 tournaments had 10 minute blinds. The blinds would start off at 2K/4K ante 500 as the first major hand had plplaya, grebnret86, pato1983, and GodlikeRoy all limping in to see the 7♥ K♥ 5♣ flop. Out of the small blind pato1983 immediately shoved for 34,327 chips as GodlikeRoy got out of the way, but plplaya called just as quickly holding 2♣ 5♦ A♦ 5♠ for the flopped set and a nut low draw. Folded back to pato1983 who would turn over Q♥ 3♥ K♦ 2♦ for the flush draw and lesser low draw. 7♠ paired the board on the turn shutting out the flush draw, and the 3♠ on the river shut pato1983 out of the tournament in ninth place ($6,600.00).

ApKTuK mugs his first victim

Shortly after the blinds moved up to 2500/5000 ante 625 ApKTuK began to build a stack and would shove preflop for 127,525 covering the table after chip leading el_klonkador folded. Play moved to muggylicious in the big blind who made the decision to call with 2♣ A♥ 8♥ Kâ™  creating a 116,432 chip pot. ApKTuK wasn’t bullying and turned over aces and jacks A♣ Aâ™  J♦ J♣ as the 3♣ Qâ™  9â™  4♥ 10♦ board failed to peel off a low draw and ApKTuK scooped the pot sending muggylicious home in eighth place ($8,400.00). Another strong finish for muggylicious in this year’s SCOOP, to go along with the third place finish for over $100K in Event #28-H.

Number one most wanted chip stack

Watch the video below for the three-way all-in fest between ApKTuK, el_klonkador, and Nr 1 Enemy as they all get it in preflop for a massive 257,178 chip pot:

ApKTuK: 10♣ 2♥ A♣ J♥
Nr 1 Enemy: A♥ 3♠ 5♦ 4♦
el_klonkador: 5♣ 3♣ A♦ 7♣

All three looking for a wheel, but the all high flop Q♥ J♦ J♣ all but ended the night for Nr 1 Enemy and el_klonkador. 4♥ closed out the possible flush and ApKTuK swept the massive pot knocking out both players with one blow. Per the chip stacks Nr 1 Enemy took seventh place ($10,200.00) as el_klonkador clunked out in sixth ($12,600.00).

Mercy is for the weak, we do not train to be merciful here!

And with a quick crane kick we were down to four. The very next hand after knocking out 25% of the table ApKTuK was all-in again against a shortstacked copi who would push over the top of ApKTuK’s raise for 26,796 chips holding a suited ace 3â™  K♥ 9♥ A♥ . ApKTuK with 354,928 chips before the hand started made the easy call holding 6â™  5â™  Aâ™  7♥ . One six was enough to take the lead, but the second one on the turn 6♣ 10â™  9♦ 6♦ was enough to prevent copi from adding a SCOOP title to the WCOOP O8 bracelet in fifth place ($15,600.00).

More batting practice for ApKTuK

Seriously, no matter what type of split-fingered fastball, slider, curveball, was thrown at ApKTuK during this rush, the pitcher was promptly shown to the showers. With blinds holding at 2500/5000 ante 625, plplaya would take a stab from the button shoving for 64,764 chips holding 2♣ A♣ 2♥ Kâ™  as ApKTuK made the call from the big blind with threes and sixes 3♦ 6♣ 6♦ 3♣ . Little surprise that a trey peeled off first and after the final king hit the 3♥ A♥ J♦ A♦ 7â™  river, ApKTuK’s boat sent plplaya out with another 2010 SCOOP final table cash in O8 (read the Event #14-M final table recap here) earning $22,200.00 in fourth place.

Does not play well with others

It was grebnret86’s turn to take a shot at the class bully with blinds moving up to 3000/6000 ante 750 by pushing from the button with a not-so-small 103,464 chip stack. ApKTuK with over 400K made the call holding Aâ™  J♣ J♥ 6♥ . The jacks made grebnret86’s nines look small 9â™  9♥ 5â™  4♣ and the 10♣ 4♦ Kâ™  A♦ 8♥ made the tournament shrink to just two players ending grebnret86’s night in third place ($31,200.00).

GodlikeRoy needed some divine intervention this evening

ApKTuK was just too much as the two would spar for longer than expected as GodlikeRoy started with a hefty 63,843 to 536,157 chip deficit. 40 hands it took for ApKTuK to finally take this down, watch below as GodlikeRoy lets the tournament hopes ride on the flopped open-ended straight draw:

No straight, no low, no chips and ApkTuK’s destruction of the final table was complete as his pair of nines 9â™  Aâ™  3â™  6♥ was enough to take the $60,000.00 first place prize as GodlikeRoy’s 10â™  Q♣ 6♣ 3♣ missed the straight Jâ™  2♦ 9♥ 4♦ J♣ and would have to take a mortal-like second place check worth $40,000.00
