More than 2,000 players turned out on PokerStars Tuesday to see who would be the biggest stud at that seven-card game. Event 25 of SCOOP (2011 edition) Stud Hi-Lo $22 buy in drew 2,012 players, which built a prize pool of a cool $40,240–just more than double the $20,000 guarantee.

After 288 players made the money they set their sights on the nearly $7,000 top prize. George Danzer was the sole Team PokerStars pro in the cash with a 37th placement for $120.72.

After Zoni_MoRsi’s sevens and sixes were bested by the aces and jacks held by Ruffern 17 the final table was set with Ruffern17 as the big chipleader.

The players and their chips:

Seat 1 — mattutaylor (593,669)
Seat 2 — Ruffern17 (3,578,403)
Seat 3 — DAMIROK (1,292,807)
Seat 4 — Se7enTr3y (966,064)

Seat 6 — magic_maniac (1,151,538)
Seat 7 — Erneus (1,353,013)
Seat 8 — poncho pat (337,090)

Poncho pat found himself down to about 180K and had to bring it in for 18,000 with the 3♠ showing. Se7enTr3y and two others called. Se7enTr3y led out for 60,000 on fourth showing 8♠ A♠ while poncho pat called after catching the 10♦. Both Se7enTr3y and poncho pat paired their up cards on fifth street-unfortunately for poncho pat Se7enTr3y caught an ace and not an eight while he caught a ten. Despite the open aces, poncho pat called all in. The Englishman could not improve on his pair of tens and earned $402.40 for eighth.

Erneus got the last of his 250K all in on fifth street holding A♥ 2♥ 4♣ 3♥ J♣ and was heavily favored against the 10♠ K♣ 10♦ 4♥ 6♠ held by magic_maniac, but Erneus bricked off with 4♦ 9♥ and had to settle for seventh, which was worth $804.80

A few hands later, mattutaylor was down to 120K and got it all in on third against Win_ston_007. The final hands:

mattutaylor K♥ 7♥ 8♦ 4♦ Q♠ 3♦ J♠
Win_ston_007 7♦ 2♠ A♥ 2♣ J♣ Q♦ 6♠

That’s right, deuces took the pot with no low for either player. For the sixth-place finish, mattutaylor took home $1,207.20.

The final four

Ruffern17 found himself steadily dropping in chip count at the final table and ended up being the fourth-place finisher. After Se7enTr3y brought it in for 48,000 with the 2♣ up, magic_maniac made it 160K with the 2♥ as the door card and Ruffern17 three bet to 320K with the 3♠ to get heads up with magic_maniac. Both caught a jack on fourth street, and magic_maniac called a 160K bet by Ruffern17. On fifth, magic_maniac got the 7♣ and bet. Ruffern17 raised to 408K all in with the 6♣. Their hands at that point:

magic_maniac 7♦ A♠ 2♥ J♠ 7♣
Ruffern17 3♦ A♦ 3♠ J♦ 6♣

Ruffern17 could not improve on the last two streets and won $2,816.80.

This close hand sent Churchill packing and set up the heads-up battle:

Win_ston_007 earned $3,822.80 for third.

Se7enTr3y and magic_maniac agreed to pause the clock and discuss a deal. Both were receptive to the plan as presented, and Se7enTr3y was guaranteed $5,865.93 and magic_maniac $5,534.87 in the agreement. The two were left to play for an additional $400 and the SCOOP watch.

The German and the Englishman tangled for more than 20 minutes with Se7evenTr3y building a 3-to-1 chip lead and then relinquishing it. The tide turned in magic_maniac’s favor as he built a chip advantage and then finished off his opponent on this hand:

Se7enTr3y opened for 60K with the 8♣ and magic_maniac raised to 200K with the 10♥. Se7enTr3y called and led for 200K on fourth street when he caught the 9♦. Magic_maniac called with the 9♥. A fifth-street bet of 400K was raised by magic_manic after he caught a 8♦ to Se7enTr3y’s 10♦. At this point, both players showed a board of 8-9-T. On sixth street, magic_maniac led out for 400K when he caught the A♣ and Se7enTr3y raised with the 6♥ to 800K. Magic_maniac three bet to 1.2 million and Se7enTr3y called. He put his last few chips into the pot on seventh. The final boards:

magic_maniac J♦ Q♠ 10♥ 9♥ 8♦ A♣ 8♥
Se7enTr3y A♦ 7♣ 8♣ 9♦ 10♦ 6♥ 6♠

Both players caught a straight, but magic’s was a bit higher and the difference won him a SCOOP championship and a timepiece memento.
