When you see Duece-to-Seven Triple Draw Lowball being played it’s usually for serious coin. The 2-7 event at the World Series of Poker is considered one of the toughest in the field. The game is popular in some of the biggest mixed games in Las Vegas. And on Monday, PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker players got their triple draw on.

The low version of Event #9 Limit Triple Draw 2-7 Lowball drew 1,801 players, creating a prize pool of $26,020. First place today would receive $5,673.16 – pretty good cheese for a $22 buy-in.

After a rather brisk 8.5 hours (by SCOOP standards) the final six were set. Here were their seat positions and chip counts:

Seat 1 – InstantLei 1,186,919
Seat 2 – sweghozt 604,527
Seat 3 – JH-INGLE 1,420,380
Seat 4 – StitzDogg 2,215,761
Seat 5 – Kid Cole 2,303,171
Seat 6 – Streit Flasc 1,274,242

The short stack was the first to depart. StreitFlasc raised to 100,000 on the button and sweghozt three bet in the big blind. StreitFlasc called. Sweghozt drew two while StreitFlasc drew only one. Sweghozt then bet 50,000 and StreitFlasc raised to put him all-in. Sweghozt called and drew one while StreitFlasc stood pat. Sweghozt drew one more while StreitFlasc stood pat a second time. Sweghozt showed 7♣ 7♠ 8♣ 5♦ 3♠ while StretFlasc held 8♦ 6♦ 5♥ 3♣ 2♥ , meaning sweghozt had been drawing dead with the 8-7-5-3 he was trying to improve. For his sixth-place finish sweghozt earned $682.58.

Meanwhile, JH-INGLE was rocketing up in chips. After making hands like 8-5-4-3-2, 8-7-5-3-2 and 7-6-4-3-2 he increased his stack from 1.4 million to 3.8 million in the early going. Then it was StitzDogg’s turn. This player won a big 1.7 million pot against Kid Cole and StreitFlasc by making the nuts of 7-5-4-3-2 on the third draw to move up to nearly 2.6 million in chips.

StreitFlasc exited in fifth. Kid Cole raised to 160,000 from under the gun and StreitFlasc called one to his left. Kid Cole stood pat while StreitFlasc drew one. Kid Cole led out for 80,000 and StreitFlasc called. Again, Kid Cole stood pat while StreitFlasc drew a card. Kid Cole bet 160,000, enough to put StreitFlasc all-in. On the third draw both stood pat. The hands were:

Kid Cole 8♣ 6♦ 4♠ 3♦ 2♠
StreitFlasc 8♥ 7♠ 6♥ 4♥ 2♦

StreitFlasc earned $1,260.71 for his efforts.

With stakes now at 100K/200K and average stacks at 2.5 million, action would continue to move fast at this final table. In fact, JH-INGLE quickly moved from chipleader to next out the door. After having lost a 1.6 million pot against InstantLei’s 8-7-4-3-2, JH-INGLE was down to less than 500,000. On his final hand, he raised to 200,000 and Kid Cole called in the big blind. Both players stood pat on all draws as Kid Cole put JH-INGLE all-in. Kid Cole had drawn the nuts on the deal 7♥ 5♣ 4â™  3♣ 2♦ while JH-INGLE was way behind with J♦ 9â™  7â™  6♥ 2♥ . For finishing fourth, JH-INGLE took home $1,981.11.

Kid Cole ran into a tough stretch after knocking out JH-INGLE and was down to about 400,000 when he raised to 200,000 from the small blind. InstantLei called from the big blind and both drew two. Both checked and drew two more. After another check both drew one. Kid Cole bet all-in after the last draw with 10♣ 7♠ 6♦ 5♥ 4♠ and Instant Lei made the call with 9♣ 8♣ 6♠ 5♠ 2♥ . Kid Cole earned $2,061.71.

Entering heads-up play StitzDogg held a 5.1 million to 3.9 million chiplead over InstantLei, but at stakes of 120K/240K things could change quickly.

InstantLei took control early in the one-on-one match by making 9-7-6-3-2 versus J-8-5-4-3, 9-8-5-3-2 versus 10-8-7-4-3 and 7-6-5-3-2 against a hand StitzDogg mucked. Although he got down to about 1 million, StitzDogg continued to hang in there. He doubled up with 8-7-5-4-2 against the 9-8-7-4-3 for his tournament life, but a few hands later had to fold after he missed on the third draw to leave himself with only 109K. Two hands after that StitzDogg got all-in against InstantLei, and after both drew furiously the final hands were:

InstantLei Q♦ 10♦ 9♣ 3♣ 2♥
StitzDogg 2♠ 2♣ 10♥ 9♠ 5♥

For the victory, InstantLei earned $5,673.16 and a SCOOP Champion’s watch, while StitzDogg received the runner-up prize of $4,142.31.

Final table positions and payouts were:

First – InstantLei $5,673.16
Second – StitzDogg $4,142.31
Third – Kid Cole $3,061.71
Fourth – JH-INGLE $1,981.11
Fifth – StreitFlasc $1,260.71
Sixth – sweghozt $682.58
