As the World Series of Poker has wound down — save the November Nine — the Super Tuesday is cranking up once again.

After a few weeks of relatively smaller fields, a big group of 525 came out for this week’s Super Tuesday, perhaps prefiguring a return in the near future to the 600-plus player turnouts — and even one 700-plus one — from the spring. The resulting $525,000 prize pool thus easily met the tourney’s $300K guarantee, with the top 63 finishers dividing the prize money, and after more than 11 hours it was Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera playing from Portugal who claimed all of the chips and the $99,750 first prize.

As the tournament approached the four-and-a-half-hour mark the field was carved down to 100 players, at which point Mr.Ingenious had build a stack of more than 87,000 and about a 20,000-chip lead over his nearest challenger, none other than Team PokerStars Pro Andre “akkari” Akkari.

An hour after that they’d reached the money bubble, by which point Mr.Ingenious had catapulted up over 200,000 to extend the lead while Akkari had slipped just outside the top 20.

After a few hands of hand-for-hand play at the remaining eight tables, Dan “danloulou” Smyth became the unfortunate 64th-place finisher after committing a stack of about 19 big blinds with A♣ Qâ™  versus carpediem200’s J♥ J♦ and failing to improve.

It would take almost a couple of hours more for the field to be carved down to just 18 players, during which stretch Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier moved up over 360,000 and ahead of Mr.Ingenious in the counts while Akkari also bounced back to slide into third position.

It would take more than an hour for nine more to fall. Daniel “ShippityShip” Neilson (18th), sslazio904 (17th), and Serafín “pontiac19″ Ponti (16th) each earned $4,200 for their finishes. Then Alexander “AlexKP” Petersen (15th), Mr.Ingenious (14th), and Bryan “Brryann” Ruiter (13th) cashed for $5,250 apiece.

Saul “iCeVeNoM” Khalili (12th) and MrKloutt (11th) next went out, earning $8,300 apiece, then Andre Akkari found himself all in and at risk with 6♥ 6â™  versus Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier’s 10♣ 10♥ . The board brought no help for the Team PokerStars Pro, and he finished 10th for an $8,300 cash as well.

With Akkari’s chips part of his newly-leading stack, Lakemeier carried the chip lead to the final table.

Seat 1: LAP1293 (United Kingdom) — 146,455
Seat 2: leplato (Malta) — 333,944
Seat 3: Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera (Portugal) — 117,143
Seat 4: Jannick “EDWARDHOPPER” Wrang (Denmark) — 140,152
Seat 5: Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier (Germany) — 714,781
Seat 6: MoshiMoshi84 (Netherlands) — 113,292
Seat 7: FaceStealer (Costa Rica) — 533,079
Seat 8: gnetaren (Sweden) — 327,303
Seat 9: Minchausti (Brazil) — 198,851

On the fourth hand of the final table, the blinds were 3,600/7,200 when FaceStealer opened for 14,400 from middle position and got two callers in LAP1293 (button) and Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera (big blind). The flop came 3â™  9♣ K♣ , and it checked to LAP1293 who bet 36,000. Cabrera stepped aside, but FaceStealer shoved all in and LAP1293 called with the 83,455 left behind.

LAP1293 showed A♣ A♥ and was in good shape versus FaceStealer’s K♦ 5♦ for kings. But the turn brought the Kâ™  to give FaceStealer trips, and after the 4♦ river LAP1293’s Super Tuesday run had ended in ninth.

A while later the blinds were 4,000/8,000 when MoshiMoshi84 open-pushed from the cutoff for 66,992 and got one caller in FaceStealer on the button. MoshiMoshi84 had K♦ 9♦ and FaceStealer 7♦ 7♣ . The board ran out 6â™  A♦ Q♦ 3â™  5♣ , FaceStealer’s sevens held, and MoshiMoshi84 was out in eighth.

Jannick “EDWARDHOPPER” Wrang would be the next to go in seventh after falling in a hand that began with a Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier opening 2x raise from UTG for 20,000, a call from gnetaren from a couple of seats over, and Wrang defending his big blind with a call as well.

The flop came 5♦ 2♣ 4♦ , and Wrang led for 57,525, leaving himself but 13,859 behind. Lakemeier folded, gnetaren raised, and Wrang called all in.

EDWARDHOPPER: Aâ™  4â™
gnetaren: 9♦ 9♠

Wrang had fours and a wheel draw, but the 9♥ fell on fourth street to improve gnetaren to a set, and after the 10♠ river Wrang was out in seventh.

A half-dozen hands later leplato open-pushed from the button for 131,246 (about 13 big blinds) with J♣ 9â™  and Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier called from the big blind with A♣ 7♦ . The community cards came 3♥ 5♥ 8â™  , then K♣ , then 8♥ , and leplato was sent railward in sixth.

The blinds moved up to 6,000/12,000, then gnetaren opened for 24,000 from under the gun and Minchausti reraised all in for 144,378 from a seat over. It folded back to gnetaren who called, tabling Aâ™  J♣ to Minchausti’s K♣ Q♥ . The 8♥ 9â™  10♦ 4♥ 7â™  runout gave gnetaren a straight while ending Minchausti’s tournament in fifth.

They marched on toward the 10-hour mark, and in the last hand before the break gnetaren would be all in following a 9♥ J♥ 3♣ flop versus FaceStealer with Kâ™  K♦ versus FaceStealer’s A♣ J♦ . The turn was the 6♥ and river the K♥ , and suddenly gnetaren was way in front with over 1.32 million, Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera was next with about 520,000, Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier third with just over 391,000, and FaceStealer fourth with a little under 390,000.

A few minutes after play resumed, Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera min-raised to 28,000 from the button and FaceStealer called from the big blind. Both checked the 6♦ 3â™  4♦ flop, then after the 3♦ turn it was FaceStealer leading for 35,000 and Cabrera calling. The river then brought the 5â™  and a check from FaceStealer. trujustrus bet 48,500, FaceStealer check-raised all in for 223,818, and Cabrera called.

Both players turned over diamonds, but Cabrera’s K♦ 9♦ gave him a better flush than FaceStealer’s 10♦ 7♦ , and they were down to three.

Just a few minutes later it was gnetaren raising 2x to 28,000 from UTG and Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier calling. The flop came 8♥ A♣ Q♥ , Lakemeier checked, gnetaren bet 28,000, and Lakemeier called. The turn was the 4♣ and Fresh_oO_D checked again. This time gnetaren bet 37,275, and when Lakemeier responded with a check-raise all in for 146,566, gnetaren called.

Lakemeier had J♥ 7♥ for a flush draw while gnetaren had top pair, top kicker with A♠ K♠ . The river brought the 4♦ , and Fresh_oO_D was knocked out in third.

Following one small pot the final two players paused the tournament to discuss a possible deal, at which point gnetaren led with 1,648,434 to Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera’s 976,566.

Leaving $6,000 for which to play, the suggested payouts were $86,216.49 for gnetaren and $81,033.51 (with “ICM” and “chip chop” numbers being the same heads-up). gnetaren asked for $89K, Cabrera offered $87K, but gnetaren wouldn’t deal for less than $89K and as they’d reached an impasse, play continued without an agreement.

The pair would then battle all of the way to the 11-hour break, with trujustrus having taken the lead by then with almost 1.59 million to gnetaren’s 1.03 million.

Over the next several hands Cabrera would take more from gnetaren, pushing up to 2.14 million while gnetaren slipped to less than 480,000. Then a hand arose that saw trujustrus min-raise to 36,000 from the button, gnetaren call, and a flop come A♦ 9♠ 5♦ . gnetaren checked, Cabrera bet 37,485, and gnetaren called. The turn was the 4♣ , and again gnetaren would check-call a bet from Cabrera, this time for 78,764.

The river brought the 4♠ and one more gnetaren check. trujustrus paused several seconds, then pushed all in, and after deliberating for some time gnetaren at last called, turning over A♥ 6♥ for aces and fours. Alas for gnetaren, Cabrera had A♣ 10♠ for the same hand with a better kicker, and Cabrera had won.

Congratulations to one-time SCOOP champion Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera for topping this week’s Super Tuesday to claim a first prize of almost $100K!
