Home / Uncategorized / Sunday Warm-Up: OpenOren closes down final table with $80K win

Quads.

Usually the discussion of getting quads is left for players (and bloggers) after a day’s work at the tables, having headed over to the nearest casino bar. There lies video poker machines to play and hopefully with the help of a timely four-of-a-kind, pay for the drinks. The $425,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up would end with some timely quads for the winner OpenOren. While quads at the video poker machine may net a couple hundred bucks, OpenOren’s flopped quad tens on the tournament’s final hand claimed the $80,833.02 first place prize.

While it took the sizable 2,558 field eight and a half hours to reach the final two tables, the player’s anticipation of contesting for the $80,833.02 up top made for some quick eliminations.

In the half hour before the hourly five minute break, only 13 runners would make it through the whirlwind unscathed. Players like scrubbyz were trying to return to the Sunday Warm-Up final table (after placing third here in December 2014 earning $65K). Unfortunately, scrubbyz was unable to match the feat from last year taking away $2,558.00 in 15th place.

Hand-for-hand play would start up after TheKhopMan’s elimination, as a quarter into the ninth hour of play with the blinds up to 50K/100K ante 10K OpenOren and Zarzoor912 both took an expressed interest in a 4â™  4♣ 9â™  flop. Zarzoor would check-raise all-in for 1.45 million as OpenOren made the call holding Kâ™  10â™  . Zarzoor’s two pair 9♥ Q♣ became a higher two pair on the Qâ™  turn but also filled OpenOren’s flush. A blank 6♣ on the river started up the final table below:

Seat 1: ParusPro (2302588 in chips)
Seat 2: eijseijs (3296786 in chips)
Seat 3: DuTTiFruTTi9 (1684530 in chips)
Seat 4: OpenOren (6882305 in chips)
Seat 5: aufzuckerter (1271984 in chips)
Seat 6: bedias (2689045 in chips)
Seat 7: Rocco “Sephirot88” Palumbo (1763746 in chips)
Seat 8: adrrian1989 (1880570 in chips)
Seat 9: chisna (3808446 in chips)

OpenOren opened the final table exit door for chisna. Just ten minutes into final nine, chisna would four-bet shove with K♥ A♥ only to see OpenOren call with pocket aces A♦ A♣ . Despite flopping a king, the K♣ 6♦ J♦ A♠ 2♥ board shipped the 6.9 million chip pot to OpenOren as chisna pocketed $4,348.60 in ninth place. A second run at the Sunday Warm-Up final table this year for chisna earning $36K in third place in August.

DuTTiFruTTi9: “sick game
Bedias: “indeed

No fancy words or description needed for the destruction of two players’ hopes of winning this Sunday Warm-Up. Eijseijs looked to finally break through after two oh-so-close Sunday Warm-Up runs after making the final two tables last December and February.

If eijseijs wins that $80K this is the hand that vaulted the stack into contention. With the blinds at 65K/130K ante 13K Sephirot88 would shove for two million as eijseijs joined the party with a re-shove for 3.8 million holding K♦ Aâ™  . Not to feel left out aufzuckerter called all-in also with ace-king K♣ A♥ . Nines were solid until the 10â™  8â™  J♣ Kâ™  4â™  board rained spades on the turn and river to give eijseijs the nut flush and a double knockout. Aufzuckerter earned $7,418.20 in eighth place as Rocco “Sephirot88” Palumbo, fresh off an $88K Super Tuesday win and winning a side event the EPT11 Grand Final, would taking away $12,022.60 in seventh place.

Ten minutes before the ninth hourly break with the blinds up to 80K/160K ante 16K, shortstacked DuTTiFruTTi9 and bedias would shove preflop with stacks under two million chips. DuTTiFruTTi9 covered but was in serious trouble holding J♥ Kâ™  to bedias’ aces Aâ™  A♥ . A flopped king remained idle K♣ 10♣ 10â™  6♣ Q♣ as bedias claimed the near three million chip pot. Chip leading OpenOren with over 11 million would claim DuTTiFruTTi9’s scraps on the next hand sending $17,138.60 to DuTTiFruTTi9 in sixth place.

Shortly after the re-start adrrian1989’s shortened stack of 768K would find its way into the middle with J♦ 8â™  . Unfortunately, ParusPro’s call and 8♥ Aâ™  left little room for a comeback story. Adrrian1989 would pick up a few more outs on the 9♣ Kâ™  8♦ 7â™  2♥ but still took away $22,254.60 in fifth place.

Four minutes later with the blinds up to 100K/200K ante 20K bedias’ shortstack would also succumb to ParusPro. Finding a spot to open, bedias shoved 1.6 million from the small blind as ParusPro happily called with pocket tens 10♥ 10♣ . Bedias’ 10♦ 5♦ had outs for a river chop but Aâ™  9â™  J♣ K♦ 2♦ the deuce on the river shipped $29,923.48 in fourth place.

It took 25 minutes, and doubling-up ParusPro to get OpenOren to open up some chop talks. But, eijseijs quickly shot it down by saying “play” then following up with “I got money to burn“.

A little later on after conceding a 3.6 million chip pot to OpenOren’s river bet, eijseijs offered to look at numbers if OpenOren showed a bluff on the Aâ™  2â™  5♣ 8â™  A♣ board. Two hands later it would not matter (but everyone will be able to see once the reply is shown tomorrow). With the blinds up to 150K/300K ante 30K eijseijs started with a min-raise as OpenOren three-bet to 1.66 million. Pocket jacks Jâ™  J♦ and 6.6 million went into the middle as OpenOren quickly called with big slick Aâ™  K♦ . The set of jacks on the river 10â™  Qâ™  4♦ A♣ J♣ gave OpenOren the straight as eijseijs settled for third place ($42,974.40).

OpenOren has led most of the final table and is taking a 2:1 chip lead (17 million to 8.5 million) into heads-up play against fellow Russian ParusPro.

ParusPro would close the gap a little over the ten minute struggle, but OpenOren took away the hand that counted the most. With the blinds moving up to 200K/400K ante 40K ParusPro would four-bet shove 9.1 million holding pocket treys 3♣ 3â™  as OpenOren was up for the challenge calling with tens 10♦ 10â™  . No sweat on this one as OpenOren ended this Sunday Major with a flourish flopping quads 10♥ 10♣ Aâ™  4♥ A♥ to win $80,833.02 and this week’s Sunday Warm-Up title!
