Home / Uncategorized / Super Tuesday: Ace Zzang’s hot November continues with $57K win

It’s been a great November at the PokerStars tournament tables for one South Korean. Ace Zzang won the $22 Mini Sunday Million for $19,788 two weeks ago, and has since spent the last two weeks parlaying it into a string of final table appearances and another $30,000+ in cashes.

The victory parade continued in dramatic fashion at tonight’s Super Tuesday final table. After scoring one early knockout Ace Zzang stayed alive with a string of desperate coin-flips to reach three-handed play, before starting heads-up as the shorter stack. From there two quick wins, including one final flip for almost all the chips in play, sealed the deal on this week’s title, and a career-best cash of more than $57,000.

As many familiar names as there ended up being in tonight’s final table line-up, even more were knocking at the door. Two-time finalist TanTanSWE fell in 14th. Last week’s champion josef_shvejk went in 13th, Team Pro’s very own Liv Boeree followed in 12th, and the stage was finally set when past Super Tuesday champ Pass_72 lost out with K-Q against ShipitFTW911’s A-Q on the bubble.

The action got off to a quick start.

On the sixth hand Rui “sousinha23” Sousa limped with Aâ™  9â™  and eventually check-raised all-in with aces and treys and the 3♦ 8♦ 3â™  Qâ™  A♥ board. Unfortunately for him, Laszlo “omaha4rollz” Bujtas’s Kâ™  3♣ had flopped trips, ending his night in ninth.

Ace Zzang’s first big win came ten minutes later, after min-raising to 40,000 in early position with 10♣ 10â™  . ShipitFTW911 re-raised all-in for 354,354 with J♣ J♥ , Ace Zzang called with a bit more than 20 big blinds behind. The 10♥ A♦ A♥ flop delivered tens full of aces. ShipitFTW911’s last two outs failed to appear and the Swede left in eighth.

The next hour featured deep-stacked action and a very aggressive Laszlo “omaha4rollz” Bujtas.

The next hour featured plenty of action, but with stacks deep it as some time before the short stack FROGGERT open-shoved with A♣ 10â™  , losing a flip against Chopper100’s pocket eights, to depart in seventh.

Minutes later, omaha4rollz was short enough that making the aggressive play for the pot with a small pair meant putting the tournament on the line. He had made a pair of fives with A♣ 5♥ after calling Chopper100’s under-the-gun min-raise to 60,000, and check-raised all-in for ten times that on the 2♣ 6♦ 5♦ flop. Chopper100 gladly called with Kâ™  K♥ only to watch the Aâ™  on the turn deliver the 1.4 million pot to omaha4rollz.

Chopper100 quickly struck back with a few wins, then lost a flip with ace-queen against omaha4rollz’s tens to keep things six-handed. But the Canadian player’s persistence finally paid off. After picking up pocket nines a few minutes later, a turned set locked up the pot against LoosControl, who had shoved with K♥ Q♥ . LoosControl departed in sixth.

omaha4rollz remained aggressive and made up some ground. One final push with A♣ Q♥ seemed sure to sink him. He shoved for 1.2 million chips in the small blind after philipoo raised small on the button, and philipoo snap-called all-in for two big blinds less with aces. But he reeled off two quick wins to remain in the action. Then he shoved for 654,124 chips with A♦ 9♥ over the top of philipoo’s opener. The Dane called with A♣ K♦ . The board changed nothing and omaha4rollz’s run was over in fifth.

That win boosted philipoo into the lead with 3.4 million chips, nearly equal to the other three players combined. At the other end of the leader board was Ace Zzang, who had survived a couple of desperate races and picked off enough orphaned pots to keep a seat.

Chopper100 had fallen slightly behind the South Korean and paid the price after min-raising on the button with A♦ 10♣ , then calling when Ace Zzang shoved in the big blind with A♣ Q♠ . The South Korean won the pot on kickers after the board fell J♠ 5♦ J♣ 6♠ 4♥ , knocking Chopper100 out in fourth.

Suddenly, Ace Zzang was on equal footing.

Had he lost Ace Zzang would have been left with a single big blind. But now he was on equal footing with one opponent, and 20 big blinds behind the other. Those opponents slugged it out with each other for the next 15 minutes while Ace Zzang picked up multiple smaller pots, eventually slipping into a small lead as the 1am ET break approached.

Then came the biggest pot of the tournament. Dmitry “yurasov1990” Yurasov opened the action for 131,400 on the button. philipoo came along in the big blind and check-called bets on every street of the 3♦ 7♣ 2♥ K♥ 9♦ board, including all-in for 913,490 after the river. Then he showed down J♣ 3♣ for a pair of treys. yurasov1990’s pair of sevens with J♦ 7♦ took the 3.2-million pot, banishing philipoo to the rail in third.

That gave yurasov1990 the heads-up lead. But within minutes the table tilted toward Ace Zzang.

The first hand back from the break ended on the turn when yurasov1990 – who had opened on the button — called a re-raise, and called again on the queen-high flop, finally folding to an all-in bet.

Then Ace Zzang put everything on the line in another coin flip, this time for 6.6 million chips with 8♣ 8♥ against yurasov1990’s A♦ Q♥ . The latter turned two pair with the same A♣ that gave Ace Zzang a club flush and then missed on the river, leaving him with a little more than six big blinds. yurasov1990 battled bravely before finally running A♥ 6♣ into Aâ™  K♣ and missing the board entirely, bringing Ace Zzang’s rapid end-game turnaround to a very profitable end.

It’s no exaggeration to call this a career-changing win. Even considering the South Korean’s recent hot streak, tonight’s prize was still larger than Ace Zzang’s previous five best finishes combined. Congratulations on keeping the streak alive with the big win!
