Sometime in the deep of night, when witches dance, babies sleep, and bloggers drink hot tea with valium to forget the pain of the day, Day 1 of the 2011 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker began and ended.
On the line on Day 1 was merely a chance at millions of dollars in prize money. Events 1 & 2 both had special designations. Unlike most online events, the end of the day was not the end of the tournament. That meant anyone who wanted to cash in big had to strap on their two-day shoes and buy an alarm clock to wake up right about now.
In Event #1 $22 6-Max NLHE, Denmark’s MrRepsak leads the remaining field of 13 in a shot at more than $48,000 in first place prize money. In the $215 buy-in, twenty players remain led by Germany’s spielverderb. More than $100,000 is on the line in that event. Finally, the $2,100 buy-in Event #1 tourney drew 463 players. TheWakko from the Netherlands leads that field with 17 players remaining. Top prize there is more than $185,000.
In Event #2 (NLHE), 25,883 people showed up to play for more than half a million bucks in prize money on a mere $22 buy-in. That low entry tourney has 27 players remaining when its Day 2 kicks off in a few hours. MikiOpasniy from Russia leads the field. Also still remaining and looking for a shot at the $46,000 first prize is Martin “AABenjaminAA” Hrubý, the Team PokerStars Pro from the Czech Republic. He currently sits in 6th place.
Event #2’s $215 buy-in pulled in nearly 7,000 players. At the break, 52 players remain led by Canada’s MV99. More than $200,000 will go to the champion of this event.
Finally, the big one of Day 1, the $2,100 NLHE Event #2 contest, seated 621 players to compete for more than $1.2 million in prize money. Twenty-two of those players remain, led by “0PIGGYBANK” from Germany. The winner of the event will bank nearly a quarter million bucks and one of these fancy watches.
