TRUE GEORDIE COMES TO BARCELONA

All poker fans have already cleared their diaries for some sensational coverage from EPT Barcelona, starting on the PokerStars Twitch and YouTube channels from Sunday, August 14. (See full broadcast schedule below.)

But it’s time to announce a spectacular addition to the scheduled programming, with the news that Brian “True Geordie” Davis will be hosting a very special edition of True Geordie: The Showdown live from EPT Barcelona. And true to form, the amiable Geordie has secured a terrific line-up of players to join him around the table for an exclusive single-table tournament — where the top prize is a £5,300 buy-in to the EPT London Main Event.

Brian “True Geordie” Davis is heading to Barcelona

True Geordie’s Showdown is one of the most popular poker shows available on Twitch. It typically features a regular home-game style tournament played between the immensely likeable recreational player and several of his friends.

As a spin-off from True Geordie’s football broadcasts, in which Davis and his friends discuss (and sometimes despair about) the world’s most popular sport, the atmosphere in the Showdown poker tournaments is informal and chatty, like the kind of games we all love to play.

The line-up for this one will guarantee plenty of chat: True Geordie will be joined by his long-time friends and streaming colleagues Rory Jennings and Adam McKola, alongside the Team PokerStars streamers Lex Veldhuis and Ben “Spraggy” Spragg. PokerStars’ commentator and comedian Joe “Stapes” Stapleton has also blagged a seat.

The six players will play a single-table tournament with 10,000 chips (and two optional rebuys), and this is a winner-takes-all affair. That prize? A trophy and a ticket to the EPT London Main Event worth £5,300.

“I am incredibly proud to take our premier poker talk show The Showdown on the road this August where we will be broadcasting live from Barcelona,” True Geordie said. “Enabling our fans from around the world to come and see the show in person is something we’ve dreamt of doing and we can’t wait to bring social poker to Spain.”

The event will stream live on both PokerStars and True Geordie’s channels, starting at 19:00 CEST / 18:00 BST.

Get ready for a production unlike any seen before, where top poker ambassadors will cross swords with some of Twitch and YouTube’s most popular personalities, and where the conversation is every bit as important as the gameplay.

Brian Davis (True Geordie)

Brian is a passionate Newcastle United fan who became known for uploading rants about his favourite football team on YouTube. The True Geordie channel has since diversified, grown and become hugely successful: it currently has 2 million subscribers.

Brian hosts a successful and respected podcast, alongside Laurence McKenna, plus The Kick Off live streams and The Showdown, filmed at his London studio. Brian has received coaching from the British pro Charlie Carrel, which helped him win $11,800 in a Stadium Series tournament in the summer of 2020.

Rory Jennings

Rory Jennings

Rory is an actor and YouTuber, originally known for starring in the soap opera EastEnders as a child. His YouTube channel, where he discusses football, has almost 200,000 subscribers.

Rory is one of True Geordie’s regular crew. He made the final table of a bounty event at UKIPT Dublin in May. He also recently appeared on the PokerStars Twitch channel playing in the ‘Streamer Showdown’.

Adam McKola

Adam McKola

Adam is a YouTuber who’s also part of True Geordie’s crew. His personal channel has 127,000 subscribers. He vlogs his trips to Manchester United games, and uploads videos discussing the team.

He attended UKIPT Dublin with Rory earlier this year, and vlogged the experience for his YouTube channel.

Lex Veldhuis

Lex Veldhuis

Lex is one of the longest serving PokerStars ambassadors, repping the red spade since 2009. He lives in the Netherlands (his home country) and currently plays and streams from Belgium.

Lex has almost $700,000 in live tournament earnings, and millions more online. He has more than 300,000 followers on Twitch and set the record in 2020 for the biggest ever poker audience on the platform, with nearly 59,000 concurrent viewers watching him make a deep run in the SCOOP Main Event.

Spraggy has been part of Team PokerStars since 2017. He’s best known as an online player and streamer, with 140,000 followers on Twitch. He has two WCOOP titles, and more than $1.5 million in winnings on PokerStars. Plus, he made the money at the PSPC in 2019 and in his first ever EPT Main Event in Monte-Carlo earlier this year.

Spraggy has played on The Showdown several times, and has built up a good rapport with Brian, Adam, and Rory.

Joe Stapleton

Joe Stapleton

Joe is an American comedian and poker commentator, and the more hirsute half of the EPT’s familiar commentary duo. Since 2011, he and James Hartigan have hosted live streams and TV shows all over the world and, more recently, from the PokerStars Arena.
Joe plays in various Hollywood home games and has entered several live tournaments, including UKIPT London earlier this year, but has enjoyed little success due to his “terrible luck”.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

True Geordie and Spraggy go head to head

The format for The Showdown is as follows.

The game is a six-handed single table tournament. Each player starts with 10,000 chips, with two optional rebuys during the first 60 minutes of play (they must lose all their chips in order to rebuy).

After one hour, the tournament becomes a freezeout. At this point, any rebuys not taken will be awarded as extra chips. For example, a player who has used one rebuy will receive an additional 10k. A player who hasn’t used either rebuy can claim an additional 20k. So, this is, effectively, a triple stack tournament.

Blinds start at 100/200 and are scheduled to increase every 15 minutes.

It’s winner takes all, with the champion receiving a trophy and a ticket to the EPT London Main Event worth £5,300.
