Home / News / Turbo Series Day 12: Titles for Volkmann and Wilson, plus all the latest results

British players came to the fore on Thursday night in the 2021 Turbo Series at PokerStars. Here’s a full rundown of all the action.

TURBO TAKES

Bruno “great dant: Volkmann: Winner again

Volkmann wins Brazilian showdown: Two of the best-known players from Brazil were the last two remaining at the end of the $530 buy-in NLHE 8-Max last night as Bruno “great dant” Volkmann went heads up against Rafael “pycadasgalax” Furlanetto for a $44,917 first prize. Furlanetto was a two-time WCOOP champion last autumn, while Volkmann also has two WCOOP titles, from 2017 and 2018, among $8.7 million in documented cashes. And it was the more senior party, Volkmann, who closed it out in Turbo Series, winning this fiercely contested title. Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira was also at the final table, finishing fourth, and only Germany’s “monopol” interrupted these all-Brazilian final stages. But chalk another one up for Volkmann, with Furlanetto having to make do with $32,233 for second.

Dan “NukeTheFish!” Wilson bested Charlie Combes

Wilson tops Combes in WTB: What the Brazilians can do, the Brits can do too. Two of the best-known players from the British Isles were the last two remaining at the end of the $55 Win The Button event in Turbo Series last night. Charlie “JIZOINT” Combes is a bit of UK legend, whose $8.5 million in cashes includes a chop of the Sunday Million and a couple of SCOOP titles. Meanwhile Dan “NukeTheFish!” Wilson, originally from Ireland but based in the UK, is best known for winning the Irish Open in 2016 (and being a rocket scientist. No, really.) Wilson had four entries to last night’s event, with Combes buying in twice, and the two were still there at 2.30am UK time deciding who would take the $22,844 first prize. This time, Wilson came out on top, sticking that $22K into the bankroll, with Combes taking $15,915. There were 3,173 entries and a prize pool of $158,650.

“kirdface” prevails from star-studded final: After a gold and silver in Turbo Series on Wednesday night, Jans “Graftekkel” Arends was back at it on Thursday and made the final table of the day’s first tournament: the $215 NLHE Event #97. Arends didn’t make the podium this time, perishing in fifth, which allowed the former Super Tuesday champion “kirdface, of the United Kingdom, to win a first Turbo Series title. There were 532 entries to this one, including 131 re-entries, and $125,000 in the prize pool. The last three were the much decorated Caio “Pessagno” Pessagno (how decorated? $8.5 million in online earnings, that’s how much) and “TaxationIsTheft”, of the Netherlands. But they went out in third and second, respectively, leaving kirdface to pick up the $22,079 first prize.

Wire to “cwirek”: Another UK-based player, “cwirek1982“, has also made a nuisance of themselves at the final table of the Super Tuesday, finishing second once in 2014, and fourth in 2015. Those two results are in cwirek1982’s top five tournament results, but there was a new entry into that list last night when cwirek1982 took down the biggest Turbo Series tournament of the evening. Event #99, a NLHE PKO tournament, had a $109 buy-in and a $400K guarantee. With 4,452 entries, the guarantee was eclipsed and cwirek1982 set about the win. Nearly seven hours later, everyone else was out, including Brazil’s “M Cunha G”, who finished second. cwirek1982 won a total $45,134, which included $18,193 in bounty payments.

Adding Turbo to Blowout:vanEs2k11” of the Netherlands picked up a Turbo Series title last night, beating a field of 650 in the $215 buy-in Fat Thursday Special Edition. It was worth $22,140. What’s more: this title came only a couple of months since the same player was doing something similar in the Blowout Series. Back in late December, vanEs2k11 beat a field of 966 in the $215 NLHE Turbo in Blowout Series, for his first major title. And now here’s another one.

TWITCH WATCH

Spraggy finds a very nice call here in the $530 buy-in NLHE event. “We had a nice hand to bluff-catch with,” he says, and bluff catch is precisely what he did.
