Sun shines on “soleeJ”: João “soleeJ” Ferreira is no stranger to the final table of major events. He’s been to the Sunday Million final twice, including an outright win in 2018. Back then, the Portuguese player was based in Mexico, but he has since joined many of his countrymen in the Netherlands to play online poker, and it was from there that last night he won his first Turbo Series title. This one came in the $109 buy-in Win The Button event, and earned Ferreira $32,618.05, including $12,497.58 in bounties. (Three players arranged a deal for the main prize pool, then played on for the bounties.) That was the biggest prize anyone picked up on Monday night, the second day of Turbo Series competition.

Time gentlemen, please: The first “Time” tournament of Turbo Series took place on Monday night, with 3,047 entries of $11 apiece. This is the tournament format that depends only on the clock: after 12 levels of five minutes each, everything end. If you still have chips at that point, you get a payout proportionate to that stack. When the klaxon sounded on Event 15, 319 players were still involved, almost precisely 10 percent of the field. The microstack of Germany’s “Pixel Light” was realised at $1.14, while the chip leading “stipam” of the Czech Republic, won the tournament and earned $195.75.
All around the world: Eight tournaments played out in Turbo Series on Monday, resulting in champions from eight different countries. Congratulations to players from New Zealand, Malta, Ukraine, Netherlands, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany. That first country on the list is an outlier. “marleywest07“, who won Event #10, a $22 NLHE tournament, and picked up $10,777, is the only player from outside of Europe to win so far. The usually dominant Brazilians have three runner-up finishes, but no titles as yet.

COUNTRIES LEADER BOARD
With 17 tournaments completed already, Russia has assumed a lead in the countries leader board. Three titles so far have headed in that direction. As for the rest, they’ve been dotted around the rest of Europe, with New Zealand the only non-European country on the board.

TODAY’S ACTION
Short-stack ninjas should relish today’s schedule, with two tournaments that will reward those players who know how to make the most of not much. Event #24 is the “Short” PKO tournament, where a starting stack is only 15 big blinds. (With only two re-entries available, you have to be smart.) Meanwhile, Event #20 is the 5-Stack, where players get 50,000 in starting chips, but they come in five stacks of 10K each. You make up your own mind when to put those chips in play. That, in itself, is a real skill.
