Turbo Series Day 4: Ashton again; three for Brazil; all the latest stories and results

Matthew “MUSTAFABET” Ashton does it again
Ashton again in the 8-Game: Matthew “MUSTAFABET” Ashton has a sensational ROI in major tournament series on PokerStars, owing partly to his incredible game selection and even more to his all round mastery of every variant. He seems to play only one or two tournaments per series, usually the mixed games, and very often wins them. He has four SCOOP titles (in HORSE, Stud Hi/Lo, Razz, and Limit Hold’em) and one WCOOP win (in PLO). During the recent Blowout Series he won the $1K 8-Game. And wouldn’t you know, last night Ashton won the 8-Game title in Turbo Series too, banking $13,000 for beating an 88-entry field. All of the mixed game wizards stepped up to play, including Dzmitry “Colisea” Urbanovich, who finished fourth, and WCOOP POY Rinat “Zapahzamazki” Lyapin, who was seventh. But Ashton is in a league of his own in this kind of event and once again proved his exceptional talents. He is as close as a poker player comes to being unbeatable in these fiercely complicated and competitive events.
Ricardo Da Rocha: Turbo Series champ
Da Rocha leads Brazilian charge: EPT Prague in 2019 is best remembered for Mikalai Pobal’s brilliant victory, when he became only the second player to win a second EPT Main Event. But Ricardo Da Rocha has very fond memories too: his third place finish, worth €421,450, is the closest a Brazilian has ever come to winning an EPT title. Da Rocha has continued to play poker professionally since then and last night won a Turbo Series title, proving unstoppable in the $109 buy-in NLHE Event #31. Playing as “rickyibrah45” online, he beat a field of 1,980 to take down $29,630 — not quite as much as that time in Prague, but not too bad at all. And this one was an outright win. Malta-based players — “aHbemUsBePPe” and “NutsInMacadá” — finished second and third respectively. Da Rocha’s victory was one of three for Brazil last night, with Cezar “cezinhaaaaaa” Neto beating a field of 9,631 entries in the $22 buy-in NLHE Event #29 for $16,023 (after a five-way deal) and “edg40” winning the latest “Time” tournament. edg40 had the most chips when Level 12 concluded, meaning the biggest chunk of the prize pool — $432.05 — headed into his or her account.
One for Tolli’s tally: The Estonian player Andre “56NeverLose” Tolli represents a huge section of PokerStars players. His earliest documented tournament results are from small stakes tournaments in 2013, and his Pocket Fives cashes chart shows a steady stream of income, including wins in the Hot $22 and Big $11. Before last night, he had $607K in documented tournament cashes. Wednesday night was a new high, however, as Tolli won his first Turbo Series title, beating a field of 3,447 in the $55 6-Max PKO, which was worth $17,641, including $7K in bounties. That beats his previous highest cash by $5K and proves that experience pays. It’s also the first title of the series for Estonia.

Everything comes up RaymondRed: The biggest buy-in tournament of the night — Event #30, $1,050 NLHE, 8-Max, PKO — also produced the biggest prize pool ($418,000) and the biggest first prize, which went to “RaymondRed27” of the Netherlands. RaymondRed27 earned $32,553 from the main prize pool, the same as runner up “bubz05”, but the final bounty added another $29,426, offering a total haul of $61,979. The best known player in the deep stages here was David “dpeters17” Peters, who finished sixth, but RaymondRed, who had three entries, made them all count with what seems to be the biggest result of his career to date.

Have you ever seen anything like this? Three players, three huge pocket pairs, two full-houses and one set of quads. “Disgusting!” Pye says. He’s not wrong.

It took them a while to get going, but Brazilians are now at the top of the leader board thanks to three titles on Wednesday night. There were only eight tournaments, so that’s some going. Today’s leader board newcomers are Lithuania and Estonia.
