Home / Uncategorized / Weekend Review: Mercier. Seriously, again. Plus even more

yellow_chips_18may15.jpgThere seemed to be chips for everyone this weekend
In hindsight we really shouldn’t be that surprised. But in reality, it was ridiculous. As anyone in poker will tell you, when encountering the uninitiated you can often spend much of your time explaining that poker is not about luck. Well from now on point them to this post to prove how off the mark that sentiment really is. Seriously, print this out and carry it with you.

Frankly, the results over the past few days have been the type to cause momentary adrenaline surges as one after the other big name players delivered on all the promise we’ve always said they had. As we prepared one headline another one nudged it out of the way. It was non-stop.

So where to start? SCOOP obviously dominated, and Jason Mercier obviously dominated SCOOP.
Mercier already had two SCOOP titles from the 2015 series when he logged on this weekend. The Team Pro led the Player of the Series competition, having won events 5-H and 8-H. Now we can make that three, after he won Event 20-H, a 4-Max contest over the weekend. No wonder the only stock images we have of Mercier seem to feature him smiling.

jason_mercier_scoop_win_3_18may15.jpgRediculous: A third SCOOP 2015 win for Jason Mercier
If there’s a record to be matched in SCOOP, it usually belongs to Shaun Deeb. In Mercier’s case it’s no different. Deeb once recorded four SCOOP titles in one year. Mercier now just needs one more. And with 23 events left to play (69 different tournaments) who would bet against it? For the record Mercier is now tied for second for COOPs won, tied with djk123, George Danzer with six, one title behind joint leaders Deeb and Calvin “cal42688” Anderson.

But like I said, this weekend was something special.

In all there were 27 SCOOP events played out, so you’ll forgive us not delving into each – although the box scores for each can be found below, with a link to the relevant blog report. In the meantime we’ll stick to a few highlights, in no particular order.

So from the SCOOP highlights Florian “happyfister” Bußman earned the second SCOOP title of his career, while Artem “veeea” Vezjenkov added a SCOOP title to the WCOOP title he has from last year. Stefan “mindgamer” Jedlicka got his hands on a title to go with his Sunday Million, while former EPT Grand Final winner Nicolas Chouity won a second SCOOP title, his third COOP in Event 22-H. Sam Greenwood, usually found playing Chouity in High Rollers around the world, also added a SCOOP to the WCOOP he already has.

Others also deserve a mention.

First marek_heinz, who won not one, but two SCOOP titles, Event 19-M and 25-M, in the space of two days, while the name Colisea featured again. Why the fuss about Colisea? Well not only because this was his second SCOOP, and third COOP win, but because Colisea is Dzmitry Urbanovich, who will be changing his username to Midas very soon. His is truly a remarkable story, which involved four titles at EPT Malta and a few near misses in Monaco, and which seems in no hurry to end.

Scroll down this page to get all the SCOOP results from the weekend.

What effect does all this have on the leader board? Well if you hadn’t already guessed who leads then you might want to read this through one more time. Mercier led, and now leads even more with 435 points, some 125 points ahead of second place James “Andy McLEOD” Obst in second (we’ll have an interview with Obst coming up later today). Urbanovich meanwhile is in the bronze position with 300 points. Seriously though, this is a meaty top ten.

Moving on there was plenty else to play for beyond the world of SCOOP this weekend, with more wins for the already rich and famous.

They included recent SCOOP winner Woody “plplaya” Deck, who took down the $215 PLO Hi/Lo, Chris Moorman who won the Sunday 500, and Sami “Lrslzk” Kelopuro who won the Saturday Super Knockout.

Here are the top ten earning winners from this weekend:
