That was very, very close.
Imagine you’re one of the people out there who put down a minimum of $5,000 that Daniel Negreanu (or Phil Ivey!) wouldn’t win a bracelet at this year’s World Series of Poker. Imagine sitting there thinking, “We’re not two weeks into the Series, and Daniel is already heads-up for a bracelet.”
I’m just glad I’m not one of those people. It’s the reason they make antacids.
Yes, those bettors exist. As you’ve heard time and again already, Negreanu put up the open offer to people who would bet against him and Ivey this year, and last night Negreanu got heads up with Paul Volpe for the $10,000 NL 2-7 Championship. The bet was almost over before had even begun.
Instead, Negreanu had to settle for second place and (only) $156,000. He made it just one spot better than fellow Team Pro Jason Mercier who finished in third place for $99,313.
Negreanu is not without his confidence. His recent attitude and lifestyle changes have resulted in working with clearly-stated intentions each day. So, the near-miss aside, he remained optimistic in defeat.
Good run, came second to a great young player @paulgees81 going to jump right into the next one and make another run. Fun stuff 🙂

So, today, Negreanu is off to the gym, will play a little golf, and then hop in the $10,000 Razz event, with, of course, the intention of finishing the day with a big stack.
While he might have missed gold last night, he’s still up more than $90,000 on the summer and still has several weeks to go to make good on his bracelet bet.
Congrats to both Negreanu and Mercier for great finishes last night. Onto the next one, men.
