If I was Bruce Buffer’s accountant, I’d advise him to be paid by his time, not by the word. He doesn’t actually say all that many, but his trademark delivery is such that he’s up on the stage longer than most.

“We arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre live!” Buffer bellowed from the temporary stage in the Amazon Room, drawing out the “r” long enough for up to sixty doctors to peer down his throat. “From the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.” The man best known for his work as the announcer for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) then whipped up the anticipation a notch or two further, describing the 2,734 players sitting before him as “warriors of the cards” preparing for a death match for the $8,944,138 first prize.

“And now, this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit’s time to go to war on the green felt battleground of champions!”

Bruce Buffer instructs the day 2B players to “Shuffle up and deal!”

Buffer got the reception his energies demanded: a strong whoop of support from railbirds and players. Tournament director Jack Effel then added some quick housekeeping: “Two and four hundred blinds, 50 ante, shuffle up and deal.”

In truth, it wasn’t exactly what we’d all been waiting for, inasmuch as it was now the sixth consecutive day someone had stood on that spot and issued similar words. Anyone hanging on tenterhooks through close to a week would be shredded by now.

This is day 2B, the second and last of the two day two flights. At the end of it, there will be few enough players remaining to all come back together. They’ll take a day off Sunday, then return to possibly burst the bubble on Monday.

That’s getting ahead of ourselves, however. We still have eight hours of play to navigate. As ever, Team PokerStars Pro is out in force, with Anh Van Nguyen, Vanessa Rousso, Matthias De Meulder, Gavin Griffin, Florian Langmann, Jason Mercier, Jan Heitmann, Johnny Lodden, Humberto Brenes, John Duthie, Henrique Pinho, Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Selbst, William Thorson, Marcello Del Grosso, Vadim Markushevski, Johannes Steindl, Alexander Kravchenko and Hevad Khan, joining Andre Coimbra, Jorge Arias, George Lind of Team Online.

We’ll also hope to introduce you to a bunch of the PokerStars qualifiers in the field, including (in about an hour) Robert Solock, who emailed blog@pokerstars.eu, told us a bit about himself, and will soon have his story told. You should do the same too, or tell us about your friends and family playing in Vegas.

Players are taking their first break of the day. Take a look at the schedule for the day below.
