PokerStars Canada Cup Frequently Asked Questions
The PokerStars Canada Cup is a new poker event exclusively for our Canadian players. The event starts out online and culminates with a live final table, possibly filmed for TV, at the PCA in The Bahamas.
The winner will receive the largest share of the minimum $250,000 guaranteed prize pool, plus the PokerStars Canada Cup trophy. Entry into the 2013 PCA Main Event will also be awarded to the top three finishers.
You can win your seat buy in to the online final directly for $530 or qualify through any of our daily satellites. Please look under the ‘Tourney’ and ‘Regional’ tab in the PokerStars lobby for full details on satellites available.
The online final takes place November 17 at 19:00 ET. Once nine players remain the tournament will pause and resume with a live final table at the PCA, Bahamas, January 2013.
When the final nine players are reached, the tournament is stopped. Due to the way the software works in this situation, it may be that one hand plays out at the final table - this hand is not counted, no matter what the result (including if someone is eliminated). The live final table will start with whatever the chip stacks, blinds, and button position were at the start of the next hand after 10th place has been eliminated.
If you make the final table, the tournament will pause. All players will be paid 9th place money immediately. At the final table in January, the players will receive the difference between their final prize and the 9th place money they have already received.
All chip stacks will be rounded up to the nearest thousand chips. For example, if you have 98,241 chips at the start of the final table, you will start the live final table with 99,000.
Blinds and antes will continue as per the online structure; to account for the slower pace of play in live poker, levels will change to 40 minute duration. The first live level will start with a similar percentage of time remaining as was online. For example, if there are 6 minutes left in the 15 minute online level when the final table is reached, that indicates there is 40% of the level remaining. Thus, we would start the live final table with 16 minutes left in the level.
In the event you make the final nine of the PokerStars Canada Cup you will receive an expenses paid package to the Bahamas. This includes a return flight from any major Canadian international airport, hotel accommodation for 3 nights and $500 spending money for any additional expenses. If you finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd, your hotel stay will be extended since you will be rewarded with a seat to the PCA Main Event.
No, there will be no compensation or reimbursement of any sort offered, should a player be unable to attend the PokerStars Canada Cup final table. If you cannot guarantee availability from January 6-15 you should not participate in this promotion.
The PokerStars Canada Cup will not clash with the PCA main event, so no need to worry.
No, all players who make the final table with resume the tournament with the exact number of chips they had at the time the online final paused (when nine participants remained). This is not a satellite.
This is yet to be confirmed, but it’s possible that the final table will be filmed at the PCA. All players will be required to sign a TV waiver form. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more details. The website will be updated once it’s been decided if its to be filmed for not.
