Here’s what you need to start streaming

  • A computer capable of streaming
We’d recommend using a desktop computer over a laptop. Twitch minimum specifications include an Intel Core i5-4670 processor (or AMD equivalent), 8GB of RAM and Windows 7 or a newer operating system. However, as poker streaming takes up less processing power than most video game streaming, you can probably get away with using a less powerful machine. We’d also recommend a two-monitor set-up, which gives you greater freedom to run other applications while you’re streaming.
  • A Twitch account
Click here to register for a Twitch account. Once you’ve signed up, go to ‘Dashboard’ > ‘Stream Key’ to access your unique stream key - the code you need to connect your stream to Twitch. Paste it somewhere and keep it handy, but never share it!
  • Streaming software, to connect the PokerStars client to your streaming platform
There are two pieces of software we’d recommend: OBS or XSplit Broadcaster, although only the former is available for Macs.
  • A working webcam and microphone
There’s a huge range of options available, but for those starting out we would recommend the Logitech Pro Webcam C920, which has an in-built microphone.
  • An overlay (a graphical layout to make your stream look great)
Customise the layout of your stream and make it just how you want it. You can even add extras such as in-stream pop-up alerts, follower/donator information, details of what music you are playing and more. Check the video above for advice on overlays from Randy ‘Nanonoko’ Lew.
