How does the moving button system work?

PokerStars uses a forward-moving button system instead of a dead-button system.

• The button moves to the next player on the left, regardless of player eliminations.
• Every hand has a small blind and a big blind.

Why does PokerStars use a forward-moving button?

Online poker tables change quickly because players can join and leave at any time.

A table can go from nine players to two players and back again within moments.

A dead button system can create more unusual situations in this environment.

The forward-moving button system keeps the blinds moving consistently.

 

Is it possible to skip the big blind?

Yes. In specific occasions, you might miss posting the big blind.

For example, if you are under the gun and the player in the big blind position leaves or is eliminated, the button moves forward.

You may then post the small blind instead of the big blind.
