PokerStars Players No Limit Championship (PSPC) is back for an exciting and lucrative second edition in January 2023.

To prepare for the PSPC’s return, PokerStars have been giving away Platinum Passes, both online and at live events, most recently at the Road to PSPC Dublin.

The Road to PSPC Dublin Main Event is now all wrapped up. A new champion has been crowned. A new Platinum Pass holder revealed.

Here’s how it went down…

Road to PSPC Dublin results

The PSPC Dublin ran from July 14 – 18 with a $400 buy in. A total of 318 entries generated a prize pool of €113,170.

Of these entries, 19 players entered with tickets they won through satellites or via competition draws.

69 players made it to Day 2, and 39 players cashed for at least the minimum of €780.

The majority of players on the final table were from Ireland, with the UK and Italy also represented. Two women were in contention, including Sonia Padovani, who already bagged herself a Platinum Pass at the Hippodrome back in December 2021.

John Howlett and David Costello, both from Ireland, were the two players left heads-up – the prize jump between first and second place intensified dramatically by the Platinum Pass up for grabs for the winner.

After less than half an hour heads-up, the Road to PSPC Dublin had reached its conclusion. David Costello came second for €15,090. It was John Howlett who scooped the incredible top prize – €22,700 for first, as well as the Platinum Pass worth $30,000.

That Platinum Pass grants John Howlett an all-inclusive trip to the Bahamas and entry to the PSPC $25k Main Event.

Full payouts, timing and results can be found at the Irish Poker Series website. Below are the final table standings:

Final tablists at the Road to PSPC Dublin

Platinum Pass winner John Howlett

Name: John Howlett
Pass path: Road to PSPC Dublin
Age: 33
Nationality: Irish
Profession: Software engineer
Hobbies: Poker, motorbike (buying a Ninja 400), likes UFC

John Howlett is an Irish software engineer who enjoys poker, motorbiking and UFC. Howlett is no stranger to live events, having earned around $41k in live poker prizes.

Howlett’s experience playing poker started young, when he would play 5-card draw around the kitchen table with his parents and grandparents.

Although he has shown some success on the local live circuits, Howlett’s biggest poker score was online, and an achievement that most poker players can only envy. In 2013, he won the Sunday Million for over $110,000. Howlett has since final tabled the Millie for $30k.

Howlett is now the owner of a $30k Platinum Pass, giving him a shot at the biggest $25k event of the year, the PSPC 2023.

Once he had taken down the Road to PSPC Dublin, Howlett’s wanted to go straight home to tell his partner face to face that he’d won and that she was coming along in January. He says he is “excited to play a very big event and to see the Bahamas.”

A huge congratulations to John Howlett, and good luck in the $25k event!

PSPC and Platinum Pass

The PSPC is one of the biggest events in poker history. The first edition took place back in 2019 and smashed records as the largest ever $25K buy-in tournament. Platinum Pass winner Ramon Colillas, who is now a PokerStars ambassador, won the inaugural event for a whopping $5.1 million.

PokerStars are now giving away Platinum Passes for the PSPC 2023 in January, taking place in the Bahamas as part of the PokerStars Carribean Adventure.

Each Platinum Pass is worth more than $30,000 and includes:

  • $25,000 buy-in to the PSPC 2023 event
  • 6 nights’ hotel accommodation for the winner and a guest in a 5* hotel
  • Airport transfers
  • Bespoke PSPC merchandise
  • $1,900 in expenses

In other words, it’s your all inclusive ticket to the biggest and best $25k live poker event on the planet.
