Home / News / Poker / At another EPT Barcelona final table, Klemens Roiter is committed to the Live League race

Make no mistake, the PokerStars Live League is causing a stir among poker players at all levels.

Klemens Roiter has live poker earnings of more than $5.6 million and, with a packed calendar of poker tournaments between now and the end of the year, has plenty of options for where he can find action.

But Roiter is a lock for both EPT Malta and EPT Prague. As the current leader of the High tier in the Live League, chasing leader board points is now a top priority.

“Oh, it’s a big one,” Roiter says. “Yeah. It’s a big one.”

A BIG ONE

A reminder: the PokerStars Live League is a leader board contest that awards more than €150,000 in tournament buy-ins to the most consistent performers across a year of PokerStars Live events.

In the “High” tier, for tournaments with a buy-in of €5K+, the top prize is a buy-in package worth €62,400. For the “Medium” tier (for tournaments between €1K and €5K), the winner will get €25,600 of buy-ins. The “Low” pays €15K in buy-ins to its winner.

There are also prizes for players finishing second and third in the respective tiers, as well as an incredible bonus for one specially-selected player. The top 10 of each of the three tiers will qualify for consideration for a year’s Ambassadorship with PokerStars. Yes, a place on Team PokerStars Pro for a full year of PokerStars live events.

The ambassadorship is worth €100K in tournament buy-ins alone, not to mention the exposure and prestige of representing the Red Spade.

“Online, you’re used to this kind of leader board, but I’m very pleased that Stars introduced this kind of league,” Roiter says. “I started off pretty well in Dublin, and then when someone told me I was first in the leader board, it got my attention. Then of course from this moment, I thought OK, if I’m first, I have good chances and I should go for all the tournaments. So I’m planning to play all the EPTs this year.”

CALCULATING POINTS

Leader board points are calculated depending on buy-in, number of entries and a player’s finishing position. Obviously the bigger the better for points purposes.

Roiter offered his brief thoughts on the Live League during a break in play at the final table of the €10K PLO event at EPT Barcelona, where he is already among the last seven from a starting field of 145.

According to the leader board points calculator, accessible to all in the PokerStars Live app, Roiter is already guaranteed 210.08 points from this performance. The winner of the tournament will get 414.53 points.

Roiter currently has a lead of only 48 points over Enrico Camosci in second, so this tournament will offer a degree of breathing space in a very close race. But Roiter seems the most likely to prevail at the moment, thanks in no small part to his mastery of more than just one game.

“It’s a close race,” Roiter says. “I think in the end it going to be between him and me. I think I have a bit better chance because I play PLO too, he doesn’t play PLO.”

EVERY TOURNAMENT COUNTS

Naturally, Camosci is instead currently seated across the room in the latest €25,000 buy-in event, with Roiter likely to head in that direction as well if he busts within the next 45 minutes. After that, there’s the €10,000 EPT High Roller and two other €10K NLHE tournaments left on the schedule that will qualify for “High” Tier points.

No doubt Roiter and Camosci will be in both. And then it’s on to Malta and Prague, where this race will only heat up.
