Spraggy keeps one eye on Malta…with the other on the maternity ward
The days preceding the birth of a child can be an anxious time for both mother and father, but Ben Spragg — aka Spraggy — has found a great way to fill the last week before his leap into parenthood.
Though he is back home in the UK, Spraggy is watching every moment of the PokerStars Live stream from EPT Malta, which he is also broadcasting through his own channel and featuring his own idiosyncratic commentary. The PokerStars Ambassador is also inviting guests — including his Team Pro colleague Fintan Hand, plus leading UK player Jamie Dwan — to offer further input and analysis during the “watchalong”.
It’s a typically lighthearted and amusing product, filled with interaction, and he’s chosen one of the most engaging EPT tournaments in years on which to debut the experiment.
No doubt Spraggy would like to be ringside at EPT Malta with the rest of the PokerStars crew, but his obvious priorities lie elsewhere at the moment. He may well need to abandon ship at any time and accompany his wife Marle to the maternity ward.

But this is a rare bonus for armchair poker fans.
In addition to the perfectly-oiled production, and expert commentary of James Hartigan, Joe Stapleton et al, on the main PokerStars broadcast channels, Spraggy offers an alternative. His team is also working hard at the end of the day to produce a cut-down highlights package, pulling out the best bits of the long broadcast.
After an all-action Day 3 in Malta, these highlights were spectacular, including the incredible hand between Tom Bedell and Tom Vogelsang that increased the former’s chip lead to mammoth proportions.
