Nickname: The Foxes
Stadium: King Power Stadium (Capacity 32,273)
Manager: Brendan Rodgers (NIR)
Last Season: 8th
|Dennis Praet (Torino) Returned from loan||Ademola Lookman (RB Leipzig) End of loan|
The academy product hasn’t done much wrong since he burst onto the scene. The cultured left-footed central midfielder racked up 43 appearances in all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign, making himself integral to the Foxes’ success. For his efforts, he was awarded Leicester's Players' Player and Young Player of the Season awards and should continue to grow into his role this term.
Predicted Formation: 4-2-3-1
Brendan Rodgers is very flexible tactically, but the 4-2-3-1 formation is his preferred setup because it allows his players to switch to 4-1-4-1 in possession and a 4-4-2 when defending. James Maddison will be the heartbeat of the team, sneaking into the space between the opposition’s midfield and defense and spreading the ball to the likes of Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy to counter-attack. Behind him, the double pivot of Dewsbury-Hall and Youri Tielemans should be solid defensively, but quick enough to transition into an attacking threat as soon as they win back the ball.
|Brentford (H)||Leicester beat Brentford 2-1 home and away in the Premier League last season.|
|Arsenal (A)||Leicester have only beaten Arsenal once away from home since 1973. Last time out, the Gunners were deserved 2-0 winners.|
|Southampton (H)||Leicester have won three of the last five Premier League meetings between the sides, including the last contest that ended 4-1.|
|Chelsea (A)||In 2021/22, the Foxes claimed a point after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.|
|Man Utd (H)||Leicester were undefeated against Man Utd domestically last term, finishing the season with a 4-2 win and a 1-1 draw.|
Leicester City have gone from strength to strength after winning the Premier League crown in 2016. And there’s no doubt they have the players, and the style, to cause any side problems when they are on song. The spine of the first 11 – Schmeichel, Evans, Maddison & Vardy – could easily help Leicester challenge for a European spot. The squad lacks depth, though, and even Jamie Vardy’s goals might not be enough to propel them into the Europa League.
Can the veteran forward beat the odds and add to his 2019-20 Golden Boot success?
(odds correct as of July 22, 2022 and subject to change)
Did you know? The Foxes have only spent a single season outside of England’s top two divisions. Although the club was relegated in 2008, the squad bounced straight back in 2009, claiming the League 1 title.
