How the Roulette Table Works

The roulette table comprises the wheel and the betting layout. The roulette wheel is made from a solid wooden disk that is slightly convex in shape. The wheel spins horizontally.

The roulette table consists of 36 sections, which are randomly numbered. The odd numbers, ranging from 1 to 10 and 19 to 28, are coloured red and even numbers are black. For numbers ranging 11 to 18 and 29 to 36, odd numbers are black and even ones red. Additionally, there is a green pocket numbered 0. 

A standard roulette table uses up to 10 sets of wheel checks also called chips and each set is differently coloured.

The game starts when one of the dealers calls for the players to make their bets. The croupier starts the wheel spinning counterclockwise and then spins a plastic ball onto the bowl’s backtrack in the opposite direction. When the ball falls and comes to rest between any compartment of the wheel, it marks the winning number.
