THORAX (1) made an impressive debut as the favourite over 1200m on his home track at New Plymouth six weeks ago. He cops a wide gate here, but if the track is wet, then it won't be a problem. On top again. WYWORRY (2) disappointed last time at Riccarton, finishing eighth when failing to back from a good maiden win there the week before. Opie Bosson picks up the ride, and the pair merits healthy respect. ATKINS (11) put in a strong run last start, finishing a close second over 1230m at Arawa Park. She is still a maiden, but she has the talent to figure in the top 4 here as well. DAMIANO (5) closed well to finish second over 1200m at Waipukurau when resuming from a spell. He is also still a maiden, but he is stronger now and should pick up his first win at short notice. EAST END LAD (3) got back too far at Whanganui a fortnight ago on a day when they weren't making up a lot of ground. He won his maiden easily at Woodville before that, and is worth another chance.
