Verdict

WESTERN MISS (7) showed she was an above average commodity last campaign, winning two back impressively before coming back to 1400m and missing as an odds-on pop. Freshened since that effort and has trialled nicely coming in. Has the speed to offset the tricky draw and she can fire back in grade. I'M CRAFTY (2) missed the start last week and never got into the race. Good winner two back and that level stacks up in this field. CJP sticks with him and with a cleaner getaway this time around, he can put his best foot forward. TAHNI TALK (1) was strong from the back in the Derby before the break and was a winner over 1400m first-up in his last campaign. He's a classy customer and while this is short of his best, he has upside and can be storming home late in the race. RUTHLESS ANGEL (13) looks as though she wants this trip now and she can raise the bar. DESERT WAVES (4) is better than he showed fresh and can improve.

Resumes after a three-month break following a very good Open-grade third at Belmont Park, beaten just over half a length as odds-on favourite. She had won a 1 Metro Win there the start before, beating Shimonoseki by just over a length after showing a sharp turn of foot. Showed she was above average last campaign and can return with a bang.

Resumed with an eighth at Belmont Park, but the margin was only just under three lengths after being restrained and left with too much to do. His previous run at this track in a 1 Metro Win was also close enough, beaten two and a half lengths after racing prominently. Can improve with the fresh run under his belt.

Backs up quickly after a seventh over 1200m at this track, where he began slowly, raced keenly and was beaten just under four lengths on soft ground. He had won a Bunbury Class 5 the start before, sweeping home to beat Return Of The Mach by just under two lengths. Missed the start here last week, but with a cleaner break this week, he can get back to his best form.

Has been honest through two Bunbury Class 1 placings, most recently third and beaten just under two lengths by Angel Express after settling rearward. The run prior was another third, beaten a length and a half by Tag Time in a small field. Appears to be looking for this distance now and can raise the bar.

Returns from a lengthy spell with a trial win at Lark Hill two weeks ago and two trial wins from four since he last raced. He ended his previous campaign with a fourth in BM66+ grade at this track, beaten just under three lengths as favourite, after winning a 1 Metro Win here from Paigey's Turn. A place chance if ready.

Returns from a lengthy spell after ending last campaign with a strong second in the G2 WATC Derby at this track, beaten two lengths by Sentimental Legend at long odds. His Belmont Park third before that had merit after covering ground and finding the line, and he has won once from two tries at around 1400m. Comes through a hot trial and he'll be storming home late.

Returns from a six-month break after finishing sixth over 3100m at Albany in BM66+ grade, beaten just under three lengths after covering ground throughout. He had been second at this track over 2400m before that, but his winning strike rate is modest and he has only placed at this trip. Waiting until he gets over further.

Had every chance to be closer when fifth in a Northam Class 5, beaten just under four lengths as favourite after covering ground without threatening. The start prior was much better, going under by a nose to Decoration at the same venue. More a rough each-way hope than a clear win play.

Made a better fist of it when fourth in a Kalgoorlie Class 2 last start, beaten just under two lengths after leading into the lane and tiring late. That was a clear step back in the right direction after a Northam seventh, and he now drops from carrying 61kg to 54.5kg. Can't have him on his recent form.

Returns from a lengthy spell after two plain 1800m runs at this track, most recently sixth and beaten five and a half lengths at long odds behind The Jester's Son. He has won at this venue and has two wins around 1400m, with a Belmont Park trial a few weeks ago. Last campaign ended flat, so place claims look stronger.

Returns from a ten-month break after closing off for fourth in BM66+ grade at this track, beaten a length over 2200m in his final run last campaign. He had been safely held at Geraldton before that, despite being near the top of an open market. Others make more appeal.

Came from a long way back to win a York BM44+ by a nose last week, beating Sky River as an outside chance in betting. That was a sharp turnaround from a Belmont Park tenth in NMW1Y grade, where she was beaten just over nine lengths at long odds. Much tougher here.
