MIDNIGHT SPIRIT (7) settled in behind the leading division then let down a little too well when resuming over this course and distance last start. Finished just 1.6 lengths behind Grafterburners last prep so stepping up to Saturday company holds no fears. Nicely placed to score again with the apprentice-of-the-moment aboard. STRADA VARENNA (16) began awkwardly and couldn't recover when fresh from a spell over this distance at Doomben last time. Fitter for that run, draws a better gate, and Ben Thompson takes over so a few ticks today. STORMLAND (5) settled well back after an ordinary start and couldn't get involved as favourite recently over this distance at Doomben. Very fit now after three runs back and the roomier track will suit. BEREZKA (14) has been in the money at five of her six runs over this course and distance. Sound each-way hope.
