CAVALRY (3) is a lightly raced five-year-old resuming for the Hawkes team and he showed real talent last prep with two dominant Newcastle wins bookended by Victorian placings. Has been fitted with a quiet Rosehill trial where he only warmed late, and while the inside draw could get sticky, he will appreciate the anticipated tempo and can burst through late. WAEREA (10) just missed the bob fresh at Wyong then delivered as a hot pot at Hawkesbury, and he’s still improving. Schofield is seeing them well and sticks. ANTHROPOID (13) obliterated his rivals at Wyong when partnered by Lloyd, who stays aboard. This is obviously tougher but the manner of that win says he’s up to it. GUS THE GREAT (6) chases a hat-trick and will give them something to catch, especially if he gets control through the middle stages. MONTE VEEBEE (2) is a likely improver second up and will also give himself every chance on speed.
