Fantastic race for the first G1 of the Melbourne Spring. The map will play a big part and for that reason, BEIWACHT (10) goes on top. His two runs at 1400m have seen him bolt in with the Golden Rose and then win the All Aged Stakes impressively before a spell. Trialling well, Nash Rawiller comes down to ride and he'll take all the running down. COSMIC CRUSADER (7) won the PB Lawrence impressively and hits this third up. Had to reel off some good late splits and did so last time, he can push on and if he slots in near the speed he'll be very hard to hold out. JIMMYSSTAR (2) resumes. His win in the CF Orr over this route last Spring was outstanding. Was a bit off his best in the Autumn but love this trip for him. ANGEL CAPITAL (5) is incredibly frustrating but it's clear 1200m is too sharp for him. He was awfully unlucky here in a Rupert Clarke and in the All Aged as favourite. The ability is there! TOM KITTEN (3) looks underrated - he's a top horse and can be charging through late.
