Verdict

MONOTONE (5) made a complete mess of his rivals at the Sunshine Coast in his stable debut and looks above average. Can keep the ball rolling with Thompson sticking. BOTANIST (2) returns a gelding in his first start for the Dunn camp and shoulders solid NSW form that reads well for this. Fitted with two trials and gets in well with Newman's 3kg claim. QUICKZOU (6) is the proven local danger and is ready to hit his straps third-up after being collared late last start. Has enough dash to offset the wide draw and should give a bold sight. Ex-Kiwi AMOURETTE (10) is an interesting runner making her stable debut for the the Lakey team. Got off the mark on debut back in April at Ellerslie and her two trials in readiness suggests she's come on well during the break. Can play a big role in her Aussie debut.

Made a strong return at Sunshine Coast, winning a CG Mdn by just over six lengths from Shaque D'Amour despite being held up around the home turn. He had earlier run second at Newcastle, albeit beaten just over five lengths by Aethelwulf after being bumped. The first-up win was one of quality and he's well placed to make it two on the trot.

Went close in a CG BM65 at this track last start, leading and fighting on to run second to Bat Out Of Hell, beaten just over half a length. His Doomben fourth before that was also sound, beaten just under a length by Tasman Bay. Third-up profile gives him a strong winning case.

    Verdict
Led and boxed on for third behind Cardonette at Doomben last start, beaten two and a half lengths after being well found in betting. That followed a decisive Mdn win over 1000m at Gold Coast, where he beat Magic Invader by just under two lengths. Honest profile, but the 1200m remains the sticking point.

    Verdict
Resumed with authority at Sunshine Coast, winning a FM Mdn by four lengths from Seaticflash as favourite on soft ground. Her Geelong run before the break can be treated carefully after she was reported lame when beaten just over five lengths on heavy ground. Tougher now, but she is improving and holds place claims.

    Verdict
Returns from a lengthy spell with two trials behind him, the latest a second at Ballina, and that gives him the right grounding for this first run for Matthew Dunn. He ended last campaign fifth in a CG BM64 at Wyong, beaten just under four lengths by Bonus Tempus, after a solid BM64 fourth at Canterbury. The 3kg claim helps and he holds genuine claims.

    Verdict
Returns from a lengthy spell after winning her only start at Ellerslie in SW grade, scoring by just over half a length from Grocer's Girl on soft ground. She has since joined Michael Lakey and was a close second in a Deagon trial, so there is enough readiness for her Australian debut. Close Deagon trial points to readiness.

Closed strongly from well back when second at Doomben last start, beaten just under two lengths by Cardonette after being unwanted in the market. His previous fifth in a BM70 at this track came on soft ground and he tired after leading. This looks tough. Happy to overlook.

Broke through at Gatton last start, beating Spoilt Rotten by a length and a half after travelling well and quickening sharply. That came after a Beaudesert fifth where she was held up around the turn and beaten just over four lengths. Must lift again to threaten this Class 1 field.

    Verdict
Worked home nicely from well back when fourth to Cardonette at Doomben last start, beaten just under three lengths as an outside chance in betting. His previous run produced a third in Open grade at Doomben despite beginning slowly and racing wide. Wide draw is awkward, but he has a realistic place chance.

    Verdict
Returns from a five-week freshening after a first-up third in a BM58 at Gold Coast, beaten two lengths by Quein Step despite beginning slowly and striking interference near the 400m. A Gold Coast trial since keeps him ticking over, and he has won at around 1200m. Even so, his Toowoomba failure as odds-on favourite remains a concern. Place chance.
