Verdict

MAGNABELLE ROYALE (6) was an impressive track-an-trip winner here fresh back in September when exploding down the centre of the track. Went amiss second-up and then was held up here in the straight third-up, before letting down strongly late. Gets in well with the 3kg claimer taking over. Watch for her bursting through. MAINMANKASH (1) has been freshened with 62 days after being given absolutely no peace at Sandown-Hillside, but was still okay late. Maskiell takes back over with a strong association. Expect him to go hammer and tong again in front. SPEIR (2) beat Magnabelle Royale home last time now meets her 4.5kgs worse after Kinninmont's claim. Will charge to the front and give another bold sight. MIDNIGHT DEVIL (10) is ticking along nicely but hasn't won for a very long time. Keeping safe in the exotics.

    Verdict
Returns from a lengthy spell after being beaten just over four lengths in a BM88 at Sandown-Hillside, where he led to the turn before being swamped in Saturday company. That was a plain finish, but he is better judged on the dominant Sale BM66 win start prior, beating Foxenberg by five and a half lengths as a well-supported favourite. Strong chance if he finds that form.

    Verdict
Had more merit than the finishing position suggests when fifth in a BM78 at this track last start, settling rearward, being held up passing the 200m and still picking up late to be beaten four and a half lengths. She lost to Speir there, but the excuse was genuine, and she now drops back from metro company with two wins from three starts at this track and distance. Strong winning case.

    Verdict
Third-up and coming out of a solid second in a BM78 at this track, beaten three lengths by Tennessee Spirit after leading and giving a sight. He was only fair as favourite in a BM74 at Pakenham Synthetic the run prior, but this is easier company than last start and he has won at this track and distance. The 2kg claim helps; he is one of the key chances.

    Verdict
Returns from a three-month break after ending last campaign with a BM78 win at Bendigo on heavy ground, beating Brenlyn's Legacy by just under a length as favourite. He had been fifth at Sandown-Hillside the run before on heavy ground, beaten just over three lengths, so the wet-track credentials are clear enough. Honest profile, though first-up he looks more a place hope.

Returns from a lengthy spell with a Mornington trial win to suggest he has been prepared for the fresh assignment. He ended last campaign with a seventh at Caulfield Heath, beaten just over two lengths in a BM74, after racing keenly early, and had earlier run fifth at this venue. Previous track-and-trip winner who can run well fresh without being a clear top pick.

    Verdict
Returns from a five-week freshening after winning first-up in a BM74 at Pakenham Synthetic, leading and holding The Speed Machine by a long neck as an outside chance. She also beat Speir there, which gives the form some relevance, and her record with Remi Tremsal is solid. Useful, but this depth asks more of her.

Continues to hold form, finishing third at Warrnambool last start when beaten a neck in a BM62 after being run down late. He had also placed in a BM66 at Pakenham Synthetic the run prior, working home evenly, so the consistency is reliable. Distance win record is the query, but he is racing well.

    Verdict
Returns from a lengthy spell with two trial wins since last racing, including one at Cranbourne last week, so there is a readiness pointer. His final run last campaign was plain, finishing second last at Sandown-Lakeside and beaten six and a half lengths without a clear excuse, though he had been second in a BM78 at this venue the start prior. Track form is sound, but the 955m record keeps him to place claims.

    Verdict
Has strung together wins at Bairnsdale and Sale, most recently beating Mckeyla by a length in a BM66 on soft ground despite being unwanted in the market. This is a stronger assignment than country grade, but his two wins and two places from four starts at this track and distance are hard to ignore. Harder race now, but place claims.

    Verdict
Was wide throughout when sixth at Swan Hill last start, beaten four lengths in a BM62, so there was some excuse, but the final effort was still only moderate. His Horsham run prior was much weaker, finishing second last and beaten nine and a half lengths after racing four wide without cover. Has to improve sharply in the stronger company.
