CIVIC SQUARE (5) has been thereabouts in his two starts to date and has attracted market support. Has been kept fresh with a month between runs after sticking on gamely into sixth first-up at Geelong, but has kept up to the mark with a Geelong jumpout win. Bold showing anticipated. TEEN TORQUE (10) brings the race-fit profile and has improved through the campaign, placing at Kyneton last start after a fourth on Pakenham Syntho. Suspect Nolen to push forward from the wide draw and take up the running. WOLLEMI (7) looks the pick from the pair of debutants with some neat recent jumpouts under his belt. Is drawn cosy for Gaudrey and hails from a sharp juvenile stable. Not taking lightly. POETIC PASSAGE (6) is the other debutant and jumped out well here in readiness. Has the blinkers on race day and is worth a market watch.

    Verdict
Second-up after a debut eighth at Seymour, where he settled rearward and never really worked into the race, finishing beaten just over seven lengths on soft ground. There was no obvious excuse in the run, so improvement has to come from race experience and the step to 1400m, a trip he has not yet tried. Place claims if he sharpens second-up.

Third-up and gets first-time blinkers after a disappointing ninth at Seymour, where he was slow away, settled well back and finished beaten nine and a half lengths at long odds. His previous Geelong fifth was sounder, beaten just over three lengths when near the top of betting. His Geelong fifth reads better and keeps him in the place mix.

    Verdict
Returns from a one-month let-up after a solid first-up sixth at Geelong, beaten two lengths after racing handy and copping a bump shortly after the start. His debut fifth in Open company at Sandown-Hillside on heavy ground reads well for a maiden, and a Cranbourne trial win adds to the foundation. New to 1400m, but clearly the one to beat.

    Verdict
Debuts from the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr yard with a useful trial base, including a Cranbourne trial win followed by a close second at Pakenham Synthetic. Barrier one gives him a favourable starting point, and Celine Gaudray is one of the stronger riders at this track. Strong winning chance.

Has progressed through the campaign, finishing fourth at Pakenham Synthetic before a sound third at Kyneton, beaten just under three lengths when near the top of an open market. She raced keenly in the middle stages but still worked home evenly. The 1400m is not a free pass, but she brings one of the better profiles.

    Verdict
Makes his debut for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young after four trials, the latest a close second at Cranbourne over 1000m. First-time blinkers are fitted, which gives him a sharper race-day profile, and he was a $150,000 yearling purchase. Genuine place chance.

    Verdict
Third-up after a better sixth in an FM Mdn at Kyneton, beaten three and a half lengths, though she was unwanted in the market and did not offer a clear finishing surge. Her Kilmore debut was plain when beaten eight lengths. Minor claims.

    Verdict
Returns from a five-week freshening after finishing fifth at Tatura, beaten just over nine lengths, with a bump on the home turn only a partial excuse. His prior run at this track was stronger, beaten just over two lengths in a Mdn over 1000m on soft ground. A Mornington trial win adds some interest, but 1400m is new and he has more to prove than a few of these. Not at this stage.

    Verdict
Returns from a two-month freshening after finishing last at Sale, beaten over 15 lengths, where a slight bump after the start did not explain the extent of the defeat. His debut at Pakenham Synthetic was better for a long way before he faded late. Gear comes off, but he has plenty to turn around.
