Verdict

RHETORIC (1) gets the top billing after two BM65 runs that read better than the finishing positions. He was wide throughout when beaten a length and a half at this venue two starts ago, then again covered ground at the Sunny Coast. Drops back slightly in grade and gets a 3kg claim helping to offset the topweight. Can land a winning blow this time. ENCOURAGED (4) is the main danger, especially with his last-start Sunshine Coast sixth carrying excuses after being steadied and racing keenly, while his prior Lismore fifth in a BM66 was a narrow defeat as favourite. I STOLE IT (3) brings honest figures, handles soft ground and has a solid record over this track and trip, though he has not converted those chances. PACIERA (5) arrives off a strong Sunshine Coast win over Clubhouse and should be at her top now third-up. Can go on with it. ARCHERS REIGN (10) gave a bold sight on the Poly third-up but was reeled in late. Added fitness helps and he can give a sight.

Had excuses in a BM65 at Sunshine Coast last week, racing wide throughout before finishing sixth, beaten just under four lengths, after being near the top of an open market. He had also covered ground when seventh in a BM65 at this venue, beaten only a length and a half. Gets the right setup to go close.

Comes through a convincing Sunshine Coast win, beating Clubhouse by just over a length despite being hampered and then held up early in the straight. That followed an encouraging fifth in a FM Class 1 when she began awkwardly and finished off nicely from well back. Third-up profile keeps her in the mix.

    Verdict
Returns from a lengthy spell after dropping out to finish last at Kembla Grange in a BM64 before the break, beaten over 12 lengths with no abnormality reported. Her Canberra second over 1600m earlier in that campaign reads much better, and two trials since last racing give some readiness. Earlier form had merit, but the last run before the spell was poor.

Returns from a four months spell after ending the last campaign with a nose win in a Mdn over 1800m at this track, beating Bomb Perignon after a tight tussle. He had been favourite when third to Bon Riviere at this venue the start before and has trialled at Gold Coast two weeks ago. Local Mdn win helps, but 1400m fresh asks more.

Worked home fairly when sixth in a BM65 at this track last start, beaten three and a half lengths by Till Dusk after racing keenly through the middle stages. Two back he was fourth in a BM55 at Toowoomba after covering ground. BM65 run here was sound enough to rate highly.

Had genuine excuses when sixth at Sunshine Coast over 1600m last start, with stewards noting he was steadied and then raced keenly before fading late. The run prior was a close fifth in a BM66 at Lismore where he was sent out favourite and beaten just over a length. Back to 1400m suits his winning profile.

Improved last start when third at Gold Coast Poly over 1540m, beaten a length and a half by Mr Bubbaluski after leading and travelling well. His previous Beaudesert seventh in a BM55 was only fair, but the quick back-up suits and the winning rider returns. Track-and-trip credentials make him a place player.

Returns from a one month freshening after a plain seventh in a Class 2 at Doomben, beaten six and a half lengths at long odds despite some bumping in the straight. He was also safely held at Ipswich two back when unwanted in the market. Easier company helps, but recent figures are still hard to recommend.

Was unwanted in the market and beaten seven and a half lengths in a Class 1 at this venue last week, with an awkward start and wide run adding some context without fully excusing the result. She had been beaten six and a half lengths here seven days earlier at big odds. Class drop helps only a little on current form.

    Verdict
Has been last at both runs this campaign, most recently in a Class 5 at this track when beaten seven and a half lengths at big odds with no clear excuse. Two back he was beaten over 16 lengths in Open company and unwanted in the market. Third-up improvement is possible and the class setup is kinder, but his 1400m record points more to a minor hope than a strong winning case. Can't entertain.

Was slow away and never got into the race when second last first-up at Warwick, beaten just under nine lengths in country grade. He now comes to a harder meeting, though the step to 1400m is more suitable on a record that includes two wins and two placings around the trip. His wet-track win is a plus, but he has to produce a much sharper second-up effort. Looking to others.
